Headlines UFC Mexico against Erceg
Moreno will take on Steve Erceg in a flyweight matchup at UFC Mexico on March 29, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Moreno recently bounced back from a two-fight winning streak after defeating the up-and-coming Amir Albazi via unanimous decision in November. He now draws Erceg, who is on a two-fight losing streak, albeit against tough competition (including champion Alexandre Pantoja, who Moreno lost to as well). Both combatants -- who stack up similarly in height, reach and volume striking -- need a win desperately to remain relevant in the flyweight title picture.

Vintage performance in win
Moreno defeated Amir Albazi via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Edmonton.
ANALYSIS
Fighting for the first time since a split decision defeat to Brandon Royval in February, Moreno appeared totally refreshed. He dominated Albazi from start to finish, pounding him on the feet and displaying his trademark toughness and aggressiveness. Through 15 minutes, the total strike count was 78-34 in favor of Moreno. He masterfully maintained distance, and the one time he was taken down, immediately got right back to his feet. It was a vintage performance in which Moreno once again looked like one of the best flyweights in the world. The issue for Brandon now is that he finds himself in a tough spot. Promotional newcomer Kai Asakura is getting the next UFC Flyweight Championship shot against title holder Alexandre Pantoja in December. Moreno is also behind Royval in the peking order given the result of their recent bout. Brandon needs another big win or two in order to be truly considered for another title shot.

Listed for main event in Edmonton
Moreno will fight Amir Albazi in a flyweight bout at UFC Edmonton on Nov. 2, UFC chairman Dana White announced Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Moreno was expected to fight Albazi in Mexico City earlier this year, but Albazi withdrew from the bout due to an undisclosed injury that required surgery. However, the fight is back on, and these two top contenders in the division will collide in the UFC's return to Canada. Moreno is coming off a disappointing loss to Brandon Royval in what should've been the fight against Albazi, so there's no question he'll aim to bounce back here. Moreno has gone 2-3 over his last five fights.

Crushing main event defeat
Moreno lost to Brandon Royval via split decision (47-48, 49-46, 47-48) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
The very definition of a coin flip, this one could have gone either way. That's of little solace to Moreno, who entered as a -300 favorite and fought hard for 10 minutes before becoming stunningly ineffective over the course of the final three rounds. Simply put, Moreno got outworked by Royval late. Moreno may have landed the harder blows, but Royval's output and the former's tendency to turtle up and allow his opponent to fire cost him this fight. Moreno spent most of Round 5 trying to hold Royval up against the fence, only for referee Herb Dean to separate the fighters on multiple occasions. You would guess Moreno was perhaps sick or hurt, but he appeared fine after the final bell rang. The 49-46 scorecard, the only one which went in Moreno's favor, was awful. We all know the flyweight division lacks depth, but a late-notice main event loss in your home country as a massive favorite is going to be difficult to overcome for Moreno, particularly in the short term. The 30-year-old drops to 2-3 in his past five bouts.

Facing Brandon Royval in Mexico
Moreno is scheduled to face Brandon Royval in a flyweight bout at the UFC's Feb. 24 event in Mexico City, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Moreno was originally set to face Amir Albazi in a featherweight bout, but Albazi has withdrawn due to undisclosed circumstances. Moreno's new opponent, Brandon Royval, last fought Dec. 16, falling to Alexandre Pantoja via unanimous decision. Royval struggles when it comes to takedown defense, so Moreno will look to get him to the canvas when the two men square off in six weeks.
