Pannie Kianzad

Gets right back in win column
April 16, 2022
Kianzad defeated Lina Lansberg via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Kianzad got the victory she came for, and she deserved it, but she certainly didn't look the part of a -525 favorite. Pannie is at her best when she's firing off plenty of volume on the feet. She did that here in the final frame, and it ended up winning her the fight. With the two women tied at a round a piece, including Kianzad surviving a knockdown in Round 2, Pannie finished with a 51-22 edge in total strikes landed in Round 3. Kianzad is a technical boxer with good size (5-foot-7) for the division, but the lack of stopping power in her hands seems likely to come back to haunt her down the road. It's difficult to argue with the results -- Kianzad is 5-1 in her past six fights dating back to November 2019 -- but all five of those victories have come via decision, and there is still little reason to believe Kianzad can compete with the top 135-pound female fighters despite her hot streak. That said, this was a nice win on the heels of a unanimous decision loss to Raquel Pennington last September.

Drops very tight decision in Vegas
September 18, 2021
Kianzad lost to Raquel Pennington via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Kianzad should be proud of her effort despite the defeat. In what was a back-and-forth war on the feet, both women had their moments. Most would have thought going in that Kianzad would have had difficulty in clinch situations along the fence, but she more than held her own there, which is important considering a good portion of the fight was contested in tight. Kianzad appeared to win Round 1 on the strength of some power shots, but Pennington took the next two on the strength of plenty of volume. There was very little separation between the two, and if Kianzad and Pennington fought ten times, both would likely win five. The Swede sees her four-fight winning streak snapped with this defeat.
Set for September fight
July 5, 2021
KIanzad will fight Raquel Pennington on September, according to a report from Farah Hannoun of
Kianzad got the matchup she was asking for, and she's 4-1 since rejoining the UFC roster. This fight will be held at a venue yet to be announced, but the only thing that's clear is that it will be on September 18. In her last fight, Kianzad defeated Alexis Davis via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC 263 and that extended her winning streak to four.
Wins streak hits four
June 12, 2021
Kianzad defeated Alexis Davis via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC 263 on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona.
It's been far from pretty, but Kianzad has now won four fights in a row -- all via unanimous decision -- since dropping a unanimous decision to Julia Avila in her company debut back in July 2019. Kianzad is a solid boxer, although she has little stopping power in her hands. Her skills on the feet combined with her size (5-foot-7) and durability (one career knockout loss) allow Kianzad to remain competitive against most anyone she faces at 135 pounds. The ceiling here isn't particularly high, but Kianzad has enough gas in the tank to get past fringe roster fighters such as the aging Davis.
