Instant win in UFC debut
LightweightUFC
February 8, 2025
Salkilld defeated Anshul Jubli via TKO (punch) at 0:19 of Round 1 at UFC 312 on Saturday in Sydney, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Salkilld leaned on his wrestling this past September in order to earn a decision win on Dana White's Contender Series and a UFC contract in the process. Here, he simply unloaded one sweeping right hook which caught Jubli on the side of the head and put him away in an instant. Salkilld is going to face a stiffer test his next time out regardless of who he fights. That said, the start of his UFC career could not have gone any better. On top of the victory, he'll also walk away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.
To debut in home country
LightweightUFC
February 3, 2025
Salkilld will take on Anshul Jubli in a lightweight matchup at UFC 312 on Feb. 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Salkilld will make his official UFC debut, and the Australian-born fighter will be fortunate enough to do it in front of a friendly crowd at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. The UFC is also giving him a favorable matchup against Jubli, and the bookermakers agree, lining Salkilld as approximately a (-550) betting favorite entering fight week. He'll hold a sizable, six-inch reach advantage over Jubli, who is 1-1 with the UFC and coming off a stoppage loss to Mike Breeden last October.
Leans on wrestling to earn contract
LightweightUFC
September 6, 2024
Salkilld defeated Gauge Young via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to earn an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Round 1 was the closest of the three, as Salkilld didn't get his takedowns going early, but he did end up with the higher significant strike total in all three frames. The 24-year-old Australian also racked up an impressive nine takedowns combined in Rounds 2 and 3, showing he is willing to go right back to his wrestling even if it isn't working right away. He'll now enter the UFC's loaded lightweight division with a 7-1-0 record -- his lone defeat coming in his professional debut back in 2021.
