Ponzinibbio withdrew Saturday from his scheduled fight against Vicente Luque at UFC Rio, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear why Ponzinibbio had to pull out of the fight, but he will now have to wait a bit longer for a chance to build up some positive momentum after going 1-3 over his last four bouts. Joel Alvarez will now fight Luque in Ponzinibbio's place.

Ponzinibbio is scheduled to compete against Vicente Luque in a welterweight fight at UFC Rio on Oct. 11, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
UFC Rio will feature a battle of two talented but inconsistent welterweights with Ponzibbio and Luque. In May, Ponzibbio last fought Daniel Rodriguez, who defeated the former via third-round TKO.

Ponzinibbio lost to Daniel Rodriguez via TKO (punches) at 1:12 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
ANALYSIS
Not great. Ponzinibbio had swelled to a -150 favorite by the time this fight began, and outside of a handful of moments late in Round 2, he really struggled. The fight seemed to turn in Round 1 after Ponz got clipped with a big blow after getting up from slipping. He was lucky to survive the stanza. He settled down a bit in the second frame before getting obliterated with a left hook early in Round 3 which finished him off for good. The 38-year-old is just 1-3 in his last four fights dating back to April 2023, and even in the lone victory against Carlston Harris, Ponzinibbio absorbed a ton of damage. Time is just about up for the Argentinian.

Ponzinibbio will fight Daniel Rodriguez at a UFC event on May 3, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ponzinibbio, who is coming off a comeback victory over Carlston Harris via TKO in January, has booked his next fight. The pair were originally scheduled to fight in September 2023 before Rodriguez withdrew due to a positive drug test. Although the location has not officially been determined, the event is rumored to be in Des Moines, Iowa. Ponzinibbio will have a slight disadvantage in height and reach, but he makes up for that with his experience.
Huge comeback victory in Vegas

Ponzinibbio defeated Carlston Harris via TKO (punches) at 3:13 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering with back-to-back losses and staring down the barrel of his third straight defeat and possibly the end of his UFC run, Ponzinibbio took over in the second half of this fight. It didn't go well early on. There were multiple instances in which it looked as if Harris might earn the stoppage, but Ponz powered through and at least gave himself a chance. He got continuously better and Harris faded, setting the stage for a late, if controversial, stoppage victory. Ponzinibbio turned 38 years of age in September and he's clearly nowhere near the same guy that won seven straight earlier in his UFC run, but there's some gas left in the tank if the company is careful regarding the level of opposition which it matches him up against.

Ponzinibbio will fight Carlston Harris at UFC Vegas 101 on Jan. 11, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ponzinibbio has lost four of his last five fights, including his two most recent bouts against Kevin Holland and Muslim Salikhov. It's safe to say momentum won't be on Ponzinibbio's side in January, though his opponent also endured a loss in his last time out.
