Ryan Truex

32-Year-Old Driver
Joe Gibbs Racing
2024 Fantasy Outlook
This driver rotation car had a lot of success last season with three wins and 15 Top-10 finishes. However, the car featured Ty Gibbs and Denny Hamlin in a few events, which added to the performance. This season the team gets a bit less experienced. Truex and Graf return and they'll be joined by newcomers Gray and Sawalich. Also new is crew chief, Seth Chavka, so it's a bit of a team reset in a lot of ways. As always we expect top notch cars, team and support from Joe Gibbs Racing, but this is clearly trending into a driver development car and less a car for veterans to part-time race in the Xfinity Series. The results will bear that change out. Still, the experience of Truex will be on display in a number of starts. Read Past Outlooks
Wins Wawa 250
XFINITY Series
August 23, 2024
Truex won the Wawa 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway Friday night.
ANALYSIS
Justin Allgaier would dominate the early parts of this 250-mile battle under the lights at Daytona. Truex would get to the lead late and survive a wild NASCAR overtime. Contact between Parker Kligerman and AJ Allmendinger on the white flag lap would bring the race to an end and Truex would be in the lead and declared the winner. It was Truex's second victory of the season in just eight starts in the No. 20 Toyota.

Truex gets his first shot at full-time Xfinity Series racing since 2018. The exciting news is that he'll take over the No. 19 Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing. Brandon Jones piloted this car to one win and 13 Top-10 finishes last season, including an eighth-place showing in the points. There's potential here and Truex knows it. The pressure will be on this journeyman driver to put up career-best numbers in 2023. Truex has never visited victory lane in this division of NASCAR and his best season finish is 12th-place in the driver standings (2018). Jason Ratcliff has been tabbed to guide Truex at crew chief, and the team has the capability for him to have a nice season. The pressure will all be on the 30-year-old New Jersey native to perform.
Signed to drive for Sam Hunt Racing in the Xfinity Series in 2022. Truex will share the team's No. 26 Toyota with multiple drivers, but he will make multiple starts.
The veteran driver returns to full-time Camping World Truck Series racing in 2021. Truex raced just nine events last season with Niece Motorsports and collected four Top-15 finishes in those efforts. The team will look to grow their performance in the coming year and the 28-year-old veteran is at the center of their plans. Truex will partner with crew chief Paul Clapprood and look to build on the part-time performance Truex had last season. Niece Motorsports expects to grow this team and move them up the standings. Truex's 51-career starts in this NASCAR division will help to that end. However, this driver and team have a lot to figure out if they're going to outperform some of the talented youngsters in this racing series.
Made just six starts last season for JR Motorsports in the No. 8 Chevrolet. He snagged one Top-5 and four Top-10 finishes in those starts. No 2020 plans have been announced, but Truex should remain active on a part-time basis in the Xfinity Series this season.
Has been signed to make four starts in the JR Motorsports No. 8 Chevrolet. Truex will share that ride with multiple drivers in the upcoming season. He will race at Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte and Kansas,
In mid-January Kaulig Racing made the surprising announcement that Blake Koch was out of the No. 11 Chevrolet and Truex was in for the 2018 season. Truex is the younger brother of Cup Series champion, Martin Truex Jr., and he spent much of last season racing in the Camping World Truck Series. He had easily his most successful season of NASCAR racing in 2017, collecting 13 Top-10 finishes and finishing ninth in the standings for Hattori Motorsports. Now he'll take over this up-and-coming team's Chevrolet. Koch piloted this team to five Top-10 finishes in each of the last two seasons and seventh- and 11th-place standings finishes respectively. Kaulig now looks to Truex to elevate this single-car team to the next level in 2018.
In a bit of a surprise it was announced in January that Truex's ride in the truck series was turning from part to full-time. Hattori Motorsports will field the No. 81 Toyota for the full 23-race schedule. Truex claimed four Top 10's last season in 15 starts for this same race team. Sponsorship and crew chief are not certain at this point, but it looks like the team is committed to run the full schedule. Truex is talented and he can take this growing race team to new heights. However, we expect they'll be a few bumps in the road along the way. The larger and intermediate ovals were where this team really shined last season.
Truex signed in February 2016 to race for the No. 81 team of Hattori Racing Enterprises.
Truex is a free agent driver in 2013.
