Akanji (groin) is going to undergo surgery Saturday and miss more than two months, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "He has surgery on Saturday. Eight to 10 weeks out."
ANALYSIS
Akanji was feared to have suffered a serious muscular injury during a clash with Real Madrid. In the end the worst came to pass, as the defender is now set for a spell on the sideline. Akanji is expected to miss more than two months, potentially pointing towards a larger role for Nathan Ake and John Stones, depending on their health.

Akanji (abdomen) remains out for Sunday's clash with Manchester United, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "He has discomfort in the stomach area, abductor. It doesn't feel good but he made an incredible effort. Him and Nathan [Ake] weren't even at half their best and they helped to play there. He [Manu Akanji] plays 45 minutes and steps back and says I have to recover or I can't compete. He's a strong player and so reliable but in that moment he cannot play."
