2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bello signed a six-year extension during spring training, picked up an Opening Day win and early on looked like a No. 1 starter. Then the walks started. He went from 76th percentile in BB% (6.7) in 2023 to 33rd (9.1) in 2024. The right-hander managed to win 14 games but needed good run support during the rough patches. Bello's 4.49 ERA was the worst among starters with at least that many wins. Walks don't always kill, but they hurt during the first half when he allowed 14 home runs over 89.2 innings (1.4 HR/9) and entered the break with a 5.32 ERA. The walks didn't stop in the second half, but Bello was able to prevent damage through better location which kept the ball in the park; he allowed just five homers in 72.2 innings (0.6 per nine) following the break. The pressure to lead the staff won't be on the 25-year-old in 2025, as Bello should slot behind Garrett Crochet and Tanner Houck -- and possibly Walker Buehler. Read Past Outlooks

Struggles to provide length in loss
Bello (11-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Athletics, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out three.
Analysis
It was the first time Bello was unable fire at least five innings since way back on May 28, and the 70 pitches represented his second-lowest total of the season. The month of September hasn't been kind so far for the right-hander, who has a 5.85 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB across his last 20 innings. Bello will be aiming to right the ship in what may be his final appearance of the regular season next week in Toronto, where he'll bring a career-best 3.34 ERA and 1.24 WHIP to go with a 121:56 K:BB over 161.2 frames.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Bello exhibited some improvement in his first full season, but he still has work to do if he wants to be a front of the rotation starter. He improved his control, but it came at the expense of strikeouts. Bello has the raw stuff to be more dominant, but he's yet to establish a third pitch to complement his sinker and outstanding changeup. Not only was his swinging strike percentage below average, but his called strike percentage was well below average, resulting in one of the lowest CSW% among pitchers throwing at least 150 innings. Bello has the arsenal to improve both swinging and called strikes, he just needs to find the right sequencing. Bello should have a rotation spot locked up and won't have any innings restrictions. The cost to see if he can take the nest step shouldn't be prohibitive, but he's in the wrong division, with the wrong home park to use in a streaming capacity.
