There's a chance the Royals' patience with Hahn pays off as he showed signs of becoming a quality reliever after injuries derailed his career as a starter. Hahn had a procedure for a right ulnar collateral ligament sprain in 2018, avoiding a second Tommy John surgery, at least for now. After throwing just 4.2 innings in 2019, Hahn was brought back to Kansas City, but a poor spring put a roster spot in jeopardy. He left summer camp on bereavement leave, then had a short stint on the paternity list before returning to the alternate training site. Hahn was activated in mid-August, throwing 17.1 innings with 19 strikeouts but eight walks. He benefited from a .108 BABIP and zero homers, explaining a 4.23 xFIP. Hahn altered his pitch mix, trading his four-seamer for a 95-mph sinker, adding a curveball while reducing slider usage and eliminating his change. He definitely merits tracking.
