2025 Fantasy Outlook
Altuve was an everyday presence in the lineup last season after being limited to 90 games in 2023, though he wasn't as productive at the plate with a .789 OPS being his worst full-season mark since 2013. He still delivered 20 homers and 22 steals, which was his best work on the basepaths in seven years, but it's fair to wonder if Father Time is starting to catch up to him. Altuve will turn 35 years old in May, and it's worth noting that his .264 xBA and .406 xSLG were each 30-plus points lower than the actual figures. He has significantly outperformed those expected stats throughout his MLB career, but it's more of a concern as he moves through his mid-30s. Altuve is still a decent bet for a high batting average, another 20-20 campaign and strong counting stats in 2025, but the risk of a fall-off is increasing with each passing season. Breaks up no-hit bid with solo shot
Altuve went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Monday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Altuve played the role of spoiler Monday, breaking up Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert's no-hit bid with a solo homer in the sixth inning. The star infielder-turned-outfielder is off to a sizzling start at the dish in 2025, batting .357 with three long balls and five RBI to go with nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 10 outings.

Altuve didn't make his season debut until mid-May after suffering a fractured right thumb during World Baseball Classic play. He also missed about three weeks of action around midseason with a strained oblique. In the 90 games he was healthy, Altuve was dynamite, posting an OPS over .900 for the second year in a row. He also did his usual thing in the postseason, putting up a .906 OPS with four home runs in 11 games. Altuve will turn 34 in May and he's not a bastion of health as he was earlier in his career, nor is he an elite base stealer anymore (although he's rebounded there the last two seasons). The all-around package remains excellent, though, and worthy of an early-round fantasy selection.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Open to outfield move
Altuve indicated Saturday that he'd be willing to move to left field if it means the Astros re-sign Alex Bregman, reports Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
The veteran second baseman said there's been no discussion with the organization regarding such a move but that he's willing to do "whatever I have to do for [Bregman] to stay." Altuve has made two appearances at shortstop during his 14-year MLB career but has otherwise exclusively played second base. Isaac Paredes would likely take over at the keystone should Bregman re-sign with Houston.
