2024 Fantasy Outlook
The three most fantasy-relevant aspects of Miller's profile are his off-the-charts injury risk, his truly elite stuff and his team context: great home park, horrific run support. Of pitchers who will enter spring training healthy, it would be hard to find anyone more likely to get injured during spring training than Miller. A shoulder injury limited him to 30.2 innings (including the Arizona Fall League) as a 23-year-old in 2022 - his first full pro season. A UCL sprain limited him to 52.2 innings in 2023, and he has only topped 60 innings twice dating back to college, logging 67.2 innings in 2019 and 98.2 innings in 2021, in part because of a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. The fact he can touch 102 mph with his fastball only adds to the injury risk. He threw five-plus innings in three of his 17 appearances last year, and he didn't throw more than three innings in any of his 11 post-injury appearances. As scary as his durability track record is, his stuff is equally scary for opposing batters. In addition to his 80-grade fastball, he throws a mid-90s cutter, an upper-80s slider and a low-90s changeup. There are reports that the 25-year-old flamethrower could be used as a high-leverage reliever this year due to his durability issues, but this team is arguably the worst in baseball for pitcher wins and saves. Remaining in bullpen
Athletics general manager David Forst said this week that the team isn't considering moving Miller back into a starting role, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
When the Athletics announced last offseason that Miller would be used as a reliever, they didn't rule out the right-hander eventually returning to the rotation. However, it appears that ship has now sailed and Miller's future is in the bullpen. He was one of the best closers in baseball in 2024, posting a 2.49 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 104:21 K:BB over 65 innings. Given his past health issues, it's not a surprise that the team has opted to leave Miller in a role in which he's proven he can stay heathy and effective.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Miller touched triple digits in spring training 2022, but a subsequent shoulder strain sidelined him for the first five months of the season. The 6-foot-5 righty got healthy in time to generate buzz after returning (25:3 K:BB in 14 innings at the complex, High-A and Triple-A) and in the Arizona Fall League (20:4 K:BB in 16.2 innings). He now touches 102 mph with the heater while sitting in the upper-90s. Miller's slider, cutter and changeup (in that order) all show promise, so it's mostly a matter of him proving he can handle a starter's workload. The third-round pick from 2021 turns 25 in August and has logged 36.2 innings in pro ball (including the AFL). This season will be about building up his innings while refining his secondaries in the upper levels of the minors.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Dodgers in pursuit?
According to MLB Pipeline, the Dodgers might attempt to acquire Miller from the A's ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.
ANALYSIS
It's hardly a surprise the prospect-rich Dodgers are interested in acquiring Miller, and it appears Los Angeles will make a run at trading for the right-hander. Miller has been one of the most effective closers in baseball this season with a 2.27 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 70:14 K:BB across 39.2 innings. He'd likely fill more of a setup role in Los Angeles, but the value of his 100-plus-mph fastball would be a major asset and won't come cheap at the deadline.
