Samad Taylor

24-Year-Old Second Baseman2B
Kansas City Royals AAA
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Taylor was acquired by the Royals from the Blue Jays in the Whit Merrifield trade, and the prospect was added to the 40-man roster in November in order to protect him from selection during the Rule 5 draft. The 24-year-old had a solid-but-unremarkable .258/.337/.426 slash line with nine home runs and 23 stolen bases in 81 games at the Triple-A level last season, and his work on the basepaths is likely his only noteworthy fantasy upside. Kansas City's potential lineup is filled with middling prospects and Quadruple-A players, so Taylor would be hard pressed to find a better situation for immediate playing time. He may not make the Opening Day roster given he has yet to make his MLB debut, but it shouldn't be too long before he makes his way to the majors, especially if he has a strong showing during spring training. Sent to Triple-A
2BKansas City Royals  AAA
March 15, 2023
Taylor was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Taylor will head to Omaha to start the 2023 campaign after appearing in 10 spring training contests, producing a .400 average with two homers, seven RBI, five runs and three stolen bases over 20 at-bats. After the impressive showing in the Cactus League, the 24-year-old certainly increased his chances of getting his first major-league call-up at some point this season. Considering Taylor can play both the infield and the outfield, he seems likely to be a long-term option for Kansas City.
