With the 2024 NFL season underway, fans and analysts alike expect the competition to be fierce for Most Valuable Player. Several talented players will be in the running for the honor, which is awarded during Super Bowl week.

Josh Allen, Bills (+150)

Buffalo's QB, according to most NFL MVP odds observers, possesses all the talent in the world to win the award. He has played with more consistency this season, taking better care of the ball, and he and the 9-2 Bills have a six-game winning streak after they toppled the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. Allen has gone 217-of-339 for 2,543 yards and 18 TDs this season. Additionally, he has 316 yards rushing and another five TDs. The Bills are off this week.

Lamar Jackson, Ravens (+200)

The reigning NFL MVP has played outstanding football this season. Baltimore fell to 7-4 after being knocked off by AFC North rival Pittsburgh. Jackson had a rough game. Hard to believe, but Jackson is already in his seventh season. He has been dominating as a passer (second in the league with 2,876 passing yards, plus 25 TD throws) and as a runner with 584 yards. He will likely be near the top of the passing stats at year's end and should be among the rushing leaders for QBs. His odds will remain solid with that type of dual-threat play.

Jared Goff, Lions (+600)

Goff and Detroit are considered the favorites in the NFC North following a breakthrough 2023 season in which the Lions came up one game shy of their first Super Bowl appearance. With the rise of the Vikings and Packers, though, they have a legitimate race for the division title on their hands. Goff is the steady presence through it all. The Lions are 9-1 after shredding Jacksonville. It was a great rebound for Goff after throwing five picks in a comeback win over Houston two weeks ago. He went 24-29 for 412 yards and four TDs against Jacksonville – with no interceptions – and is completing 73% of his passes for the season.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs (+1400)

Mahomes is among the favorites to win the MVP and with good reason. His stats to start the 2024 aren't blowing anyone out of the water, but he kept finding ways for the Chiefs to win in their 9-0 start. He ran out of comebacks in the loss to the Bills, though. At 9-1, as long as the reigning Super Bowl champs stay in the title hunt, Mahomes will remain a favorite in NFL MVP odds. Mahomes checks all the boxes for a viable MVP candidate as the quarterback of a Super Bowl-contending team who can post elite production.

Jalen Hurts, Eagles (+1400)

In his fifth season, Philadelphia's leader has kept the Eagles in the thick of playoff contention. They are 1.5 games ahead of the Commanders in the NFC East and Hurts is a big reason why. He led Philly to a dominating victory over Washington and continues to get great play out of running back Saquon Barkley. Hurts was only 18-28 for 221 yards. While he didn't throw a touchdown, he did not throw an interception either. For the season, Hurts is completing 69.2% of his passes for 2,197 yards and 12 TDs. He has added 417 yards on the ground and another 11 touchdowns.

Kyler Murray, Cardinals (+2200)

Murray, healthy and fully in charge in Arizona, is starting to fulfill the promise that made him the No. 1 draft pick in 2019. Now in his sixth season, he and the Cardinals have made great strides and sit at 6-4 atop the NFC West coming out of their off week. He is completing almost 70 percent of his passes for 2,058 yards and 12 TDs, plus has added 371 yards on the ground and another four scores. Arizona, after winning just four games last season, has won four in a row and five of six.

Justin Herbert, Chargers (+2500)

The fifth-year QB out of Oregon is having a solid first season under new coach Jim Harbaugh. Herbert and the team credit a culture shift under the former 49ers and Michigan coach. The Chargers are 7-3 and got a signature win by topping Cincinnati last week. Herbert is 176-of-277 for 2,186 yards. He has 13 TD passes against only one interception. Los Angeles has been playing hard-nosed football and the team's success has boosted Herbert's profile among NFL MVP odds favorites.

Mark Moseley: Washington kicker Moseley is the first and only kicker to win NFL MVP back in a strike-shortened 1982 season. Alan Page: In 1971, Page became the first defensive player to win the NFL MVP award. Defensive tackles rarely have the production to garner MVP consideration. Page is the only true defensive tackle to win the award. There have been recent candidates such as Aaron Donald, but with his retirement, it's difficult to identify any obvious defensive tackles with MVP potential. There are also very few defensive players even listed among the top favorites.
