2023 Fantasy Outlook
Shapen enters a new season as the Bears’ anointed starter and his anticipated improvement will be crucial to Baylor recovering from an underwhelming 6-7 record during the 2022 season. In 19 games of action, Shapen has shown that he can take over a game (four instances of at least three touchdowns), however, he’s also struggled with accuracy while completing just 63.6 percent of his passes last year. There’s room for optimism with Shapen as he averaged 7.58 yards per attempt (YPA) last year which ranked seventh in the conference among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts. The junior will also benefit from the return of seven offensive starters as well as a nice compliment of proven running backs and wide receivers. If Shapen does not play well, Baylor does have another option in Mississippi State transfer Sawyer Robertson. Shapen beat out Robertson this spring and with the Bears vying to be a Big 12 Title Contender, he should play a pivotal role for an above average team. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Shapen was unavailable Saturday, but he was able to go through warmups before Baylor's matchup with Texas. The junior quarterback departed the season opener with an MCL injury, but it appears he'll have a good chance to return next week against UCF.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Shapen won the quarteback battle in the spring which sent last season's starter, Gerry Bohanon, to the transfer portal and eventually South Florida. Shapen, one of third-year coach Dave Aranda's recruits, showed early upside in Baylor's final two regular season games and the Big 12 Championship win over Oklahoma State. In those three games, the strong-armed signal caller complerted 71.1 percent of his passes for 571 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Three of those scores came in the conference championship which led to the freshman being named the MVP in that game. He did not play in Baylor's bowl game due to a shoulder injury, however, is fully ready to go for the 2022 season.
