Yet another comically bad week, and this time I can't pretend like I should have been closer to .500 if not for some bad beats. I just have some horrendous reads on teams right now, and it's not helping that it feels like a quarter of them pull a Jekyll/Hyde week to week. I'm usually horrible on the totals, so you know things are going haywire for me when I'm neatly even there. To make matters worse, I don't think I have a very good on things once again entering Week 5.

NFL Week 5 Predictions
In this article, we also take a look at NFL Week 5 odds and our predictions for each NFL game. Home teams are listed last.
49ers vs.
Rams
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
49ers vs. Rams | Rams -8.5 | Los Angeles -470; San Francisco +360 | 45.5 |
This line swung nearly a full two points in favor of the Rams after Brock Purdy (toe), Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (everything) were ruled out, and I think I have to agree. There's always some sort of devil magic in NFC West games, but I don't know how Kyle Shanahan can make this one competitive.
Spread Pick: Rams -8.5
Total Pick: Under 45.5
Vikings vs.
Browns
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Vikings vs. Steelers | Vikings -4.5 | Minnesota -218; Cleveland +180 | 36.5 |
I'm shocked to see this total so low, and yet it completely makes sense. Dillon Gabriel is going to be in proverbial hell against Brian Flores in his first professional start, but I do think there's ways that Kevin Stefanski can schedule throws and keep drives moving for his rookie. Whether it's Carson Wentz or J.J. McCarthy playing makes no difference to me. You are allowed to sleep through this one, America.
Spread Pick: Browns +4.5
Total Pick: Under 36.5
Texans vs.
Ravens
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Texans vs. Ravens | Texans -1.5 | Houston -122; Baltimore +102 | 40.5 |
Lamar Jackson (hamstring) is expected to join over half of his defensive starters on the bench in this one as Baltimore has just been riddled by injuries. I have absolutely zero belief in Houston's offense, but they have to be able to score against what amounts to a preseason defense, right?
Spread Pick: Texans -1.5
Total Pick: Under 40.5
Dolphins vs.
Panthers
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Dolphins vs. Panthers | Miami -1.5 | Miami -120; Carolina +100 | 45.5 |
Yet another atrocious game, and one that I have zero read on. I think I have more confidence that Miami can look functional across a handful of quarters, but even that statement is worth couching. There's going to be a dead cat bounce for the Panthers once they fire their head coach, but I don't think it'll be this week.
Spread Pick: Dolphins -1.5
Total Pick: Over 45.5
Raiders vs.
Colts
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Raiders vs. Colts | Indianapolis -7 | Indianapolis -345; Las Vegas +275 | 47.5 |
I don't really understand this line. We've seen a month of competent play from the Colts. I think they are who they are at this point, right? Ironically it reminds me of that Giants team that ultimately made Daniel Jones one of the more comically overpaid quarterbacks in recent memory. Vegas just never caught up to that team, and I wonder if we're seeing the same sort of concept in Indianapolis.
Spread Pick: Colts -7
Total Pick: Over 47.5
Giants vs.
Saints
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Giants vs. Saints | Saints -1.5 | New Orleans -130; New York +110 | 42.5 |
I really don't want to put that much thought into this game. It might be entertaining, but probably in a bad way. If New Orleans can't win this one though....well let's just say you can probably find better rest of season bets than outright confidently taking the spread.
Spread Pick: Saints -1.5
Total Pick: Over 42.5
Cowboys vs.
Jets
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Cowboys vs Jets | Cowboys -2.5 | Dallas -142; New York +120 | 47.5 |
I don't really want to pick the Cowboys, but I guess I don't know how the Jets win. Dallas' defense is obviously really beatable, but can New York really execute drive to drive to take advantage of it? And can the Cowboys continue the scoring barrage when they aren't motivated to prove on a national stage that the Micah Parsons' trade wasn't an abject disaster? It's just too many what-ifs to have any degree of confidence in.
Spread Pick: Cowboys -2.5
Total Pick: Over 47.5
Broncos vs.
Eagles
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Broncos vs. Eagles | Eagles -3.5 | Philadelphia -198; Denver +164 | 43.5 |
Not entirely sure why the Eagles are only slight favorites, but I suppose they've been pretty putrid offensively for basically the entire season. But so have the Broncos outside of a curb stomping Monday against a pathetic version of the Bengals. At some point Philadelphia is going to trip up, but I don't think it'll be against Bo Nix.
Spread Pick: Eagles -3.5
Total Pick: Over 43.5
Titans vs.
Cardinals
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Titans vs. Cardinals | Cardinals -7.5 | Arizona -395; Tennessee +310 | 42.5 |
What's supposed to change with the Titans? By all means, I don't need much convincing that Arizona is just a ho-hum franchise that also has its fair share of injuries, but what is supposed to convince me Tennessee will keep this competitive? I don't necessarily think a head coach change fixes everything, but that has to be a start, right?
Spread Pick: Cardinals -7.5
Total Pick: Under 42.5
Buccaneers vs.
Seahawks
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks | Seahawks -3.5 | Seattle -175; Tampa Bay +145 | 44.5 |
I'm slowly coming around to what seems to be the public perception that Seattle is a fringy playoff team. This should be a good test against the Buccaneers, who I'm convinced are one of the better teams in the NFC if they could just get everyone healthy.
Spread Pick: Buccaneers +3.5
Total Pick: Over 44.5
Lions vs.
Bengals
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Lions vs. Bengals | Lions -10.5 | Detroit -550; Cincinnati +410 | 49.5 |
Theoretically a top-40 quarterback in the NFL with a top-20 offensive line with this pass-catching group should be able to take advantage of a Detroit secondary that's potentially missing some pieces. Whatever we've seen from Cincinnati these past two weeks is anything but, and at this point I'm completely out on Jake Browning. I don't know what the fix is here, but I'm just trusting Dan Campbell to have his team ready to take care of business.
Spread Pick: Lions -10.5
Total Pick: Over 49.5
Commanders vs.
Chargers
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Commanders vs Chargers | Chargers -2.5 | Los Angeles -142; Washington +120 | 47.5 |
Jayden Daniels (knee) is expected to be back, but I think Los Angeles got exactly the wakeup call it needed against the Giants last week. Good teams will have that happen from time to time and the Commanders are still dealing with a handful of injuries in their own right.
Spread Pick: Chargers -2.5
Total Pick: Over 47.5
Patriots vs.
Bills
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Patriots vs. Bills | Bills -7.5 | Buffalo -380; New England +300 | 49.5 |
I guess I'll be the sucker to fall for this line. The Bills are one of the best teams in the league and are situated in such an easy division. But division games are still hard, and the Patriots do have something to prove. Obviously Buffalo should win, but that hook feels like a gift if New England plays to its potential.
Spread Pick: Patriots +7.5
Total Pick: Under 49.5
Chiefs vs.
Jaguars
Game | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
Chiefs vs. Jaguars | Chiefs -3.5 | Kansas City -175; Jacksonville +145 | 46.5 |
I'm not convinced Kansas City has turned a corner, but I'm even more convinced that Jacksonville is not a real 3-1. The Jaguars have gotten by with so much turnover luck that I just have to assume it'll even out eventually. Could even happen Monday night.
Spread Pick: Chiefs -3.5
Total Pick: Over 46.5
