2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Moss began the 2024 season competing for the starting job with the Bengals, but he quickly got passed on the depth chart by Chase Brown then was shut down after Week 8 due to a neck issue that cost him the rest of the campaign. He appears to be on track to be ready for the beginning of the 2025 campaign, and Cincinnati re-worked his contract in April to ensure he would remain with the team, but he's locked into a backup role and would face additional competition for touches after the Bengals brought back Samaje Perine in free agency. RANKS
Released by Bengals
Cincinnati released Moss (neck) on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Moss, who sustained a serious season-ending neck injury in 2024, was present for OTAs but then opened training camp on the active/non-football injury list. The move will open up roster space for Trey Hendrickson, who is expected to report to camp Wednesday, to be reinstated from the reserve/did not report list. Moss's release also makes logistical sense for the Bengals' backfield, which figures to heavily feature Chase Brown while rotating Samaje Perine in for change-of-pace reps, with rookie sixth-round pick Tahj Brooks in the No. 3 role. Moss, for his part, isn't far removed from his breakout 2023 campaign with Indianapolis and should be able to resurface as a contributor elsewhere in the league, as long as he's able to get fully healthy.

Moss' career seemed to burn out in Buffalo, but once he got to Indianapolis the former Utah standout and 2020 third-round pick started to look more like the player the Bills thought they were drafting. In Moss' 22 games with Indianapolis, he turned 259 carries into 1,159 yards (4.5 YPC), adding 31 receptions for 204 yards and two scores on 42 targets. Injuries have struck Moss in each of his four NFL seasons, and he had knee concerns even when he was at Utah in college, so he might have season-long volume limitations despite his power-back aesthetic. On the other hand, Moss is a three-down back in terms of skill set -- he's comfortable catching passes or blocking -- and doesn't need to rotate out for strategic reasons. It's not clear how much leeway Moss' two-year, $8 million contract might earn him over second-year back Chase Brown, but it seems likely that the Bengals will need to call upon both runners over the course of 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Jettisoned in Cincinnati
Moss was released by the Bengals on Wednesday after just one season with the team, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Moss had started training camp on the NFI list due to the neck injury that cut short his 2024 season. The veteran inked a two-year, $8 million deal with Cincinnati last offseason and had opened the campaign as the starter, but he eventually began losing work to Chase Brown and then was shut down after a Week 8 game against the Eagles. Moss's release costs the Bengals $1.88 million in dead money but will net the team $1.2 million in cap savings.
