2024 Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Elliott is 28, but his "football age" might be closer to 30 given the mammoth workloads he has shouldered since his 2014 collegiate season. Elliott was a workhorse of rare quality at his peak, providing both volume and efficiency while totaling 2,803 touches in 131 games since 2014 (21.4 touches per game). Even a 228-pound back with outstanding ability to weave around would-be tacklers is going to take a beating with a workload like that. This isn't to say Elliott is completely toast -- he can still play, and his decreased YPC the last two years was partially due to playing through knee sprains (PCL in 2021, MCL in 2022) and taking short-yardage carries and other runs up the middle, while teammate Tony Pollard largely skipped such tasks. The Cowboys released Elliott in March, and he signed with the Patriots in August. In New England, he'll serve as a complementary option behind lead back Rhamondre Stevenson. While that role will limit his touches, he still could get goal-line work. Read Past Outlooks

Could reunite with Dallas
Elliott and the Cowboys have mutual interest in possibly reuniting, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Elliott, who currently remains a free agent and turns 29 in July, played out the 2023 season with the Patriots and suited up for all 17 regular-season games. He rushed 184 times for 642 yards and three touchdowns, with a substantially higher workload during the final five games while Rhamondre Stevenson missed time with an ankle injury. He spent the first seven years with the Cowboys, who currently have only Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn (ankle) and Malik Davis atop the depth chart, so a reunion could make real sense if Zeke is open to a relatively team-friendly deal.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Mutual interest in return to Dallas
Elliott and the Cowboys have mutual interest in a reunion, sources tell Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Dallas' brass reportedly liked what it saw out of Elliott with the Patriots in 2023, especially when the veteran running back took over the lead role for the final five games of the season while Rhamondre Stevenson was sidelined by an ankle injury. Prior to his one-year stint in New England, Elliott spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Cowboys, rushing for at least 979 yards in six of those campaigns. Dallas is looking to bolster its backfield after Tony Pollard, the team's leading 2023 rusher, signed with the Titans in free agency.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the Elliott who thrived with 300-carry workloads earlier in his career is gone, and isn't coming back. The 26-year-old played in all 17 games last year and topped 1,000 rushing yards, albeit barely, for the fourth time in six seasons, but Elliott simply
didn't have the same burst he did a few years ago and isn't the same big-play threat. After reeling off 11 carries of 20 or more yards in 2018 in only 15 games, Zeke's managed a total of 10 such gains in 48 games over the last three seasons. The decline can't be pinned on the Cowboys' offensive line either; while the unit isn't quite the juggernaut it once was, Elliott still averaged 2.5 yards per carry before contact, his best mark in that category since that 2018 campaign and a number comparable to Nick Chubb's. At this stage of his career, Elliott's just a volume guy, which means he'll keep producing only so long as Dallas keeps feeding him the ball in high-value spots. Nine of his 12 TDs last season came from inside the five-yard line, and if he loses a bigger share of that work, or simply cedes more touches to Tony Pollard overall, the
bottom could fall out on his numbers. That said, Elliott's large contract and reputation all but
ensure he'll get a bunch of carries in an above-average offense again.
