Ashton Jeanty

21-Year-Old Running BackRB

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Even in a league well-stocked with noteworthy running back talent at the moment, Jeanty is likely the highest-rated running back prospect going back years. That doesn't mean Jeanty will be the best running back in the NFL, and as Trent Richardson showed things can go wrong even for seemingly infallible prospects, but Jeanty nonetheless appears to be an infallible prospect. At 5-foot-9, 211 pounds Jeanty's build is naturally anchored, to the point that he breaks tackle attempts with seemingly minimal effort while otherwise demonstrating unusual movement ability. Jeanty is nailed to the floor and floating at the same time, which makes it difficult to get a grip on him. Jeanty showed the ability to dominate in two different roles at Boise State, thriving as a pass-catching running back in 2023 (18.3 carries, 3.6 catches per game) before converting to more of a pure rushing workhorse in 2024 (26.7 carries, 1.7 catches). This means that Jeanty would likely thrive as a Bijan Robinson-style workhorse equally well as he would in more of a space-specialist role like early-career Alvin Kamara. You might think of Jeanty as something like a heavier, stronger version of Jahmyr Gibbs, though perhaps a step slower. Read Past Outlooks
Won't work out at combine

Jeanty will do only medical evaluations and interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine, waiting for Boise State's Pro Day to do on-field drills, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Widely viewed as the best running back in a strong draft class for the position, Jeanty will almost certainly be a first-round pick and doesn't necessarily need great pro-day numbers to cement that status. He's an early declare who turned 21 in December, shortly before winning the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards and finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting. He led FBS running backs in numerous categories this past season, including rushing yards (2,595), rushing touchdowns (29) and yards after contact per attempt (5.25, min. 75 attempts).

Goes No. 5 to Jags in Filice mock
RBFree Agent
April 12, 2025
In his second mock draft, Gennaro Filice of NFL.com has the Jaguars selecting Jeanty with the No. 5 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Jeanty has been mocked to RB-needy teams in the first round like the Raiders, Broncos and Cowboys. Although the Jaguars have 2021 first-round pick Travis Etienne on the roster, Filice relays that Etienne's efficiency and production have dipped over the past two seasons, and backup Tank Bigsby is better suited as a bruising RB2 rather than as a three-down lead back. Jeanty was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy following his final season at Boise State, during which he led the NCAA with 2,601 rushing yards on 374 carries, which was 28 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' record set in 1988 at Oklahoma State.
