2025 Fantasy Outlook
Aiyuk finally got the big extension he wanted at the end of a contentious 2024 summer, but it wasn't long before the 49ers regretted it. After turning 105 targets into 1,342 yards and seven TDs the year before, Aiyuk had just one game in 2024 with 50-plus yards or double-digit PPR points before suffering ACL and MCL tears Week 7. He had surgery in mid-November, leaving him uncertain for Week 1 of 2025 and unlikely to regain his top form early in the year. Aiyuk will again face tough competition for targets, with Deebo Samuel's offseason departure negated by a breakout 2024 from Jauan Jennings and a strong finish to the year from rookie first-round pick Ricky Pearsall. With TE George Kittle and RB Christian McCaffrey also still kicking, we can probably abandon any prior hopes of Aiyuk seeing a volume spike once Samuel left the 49ers. The good news is that Aiyuk has shown he can put up WR2 fantasy numbers on WR3 volume while serving as the vertical threat in a top offense. However, it's not entirely clear the 49ers still have an elite offense, nor is it certain that Aiyuk will pose the same field-stretching threat a year after major knee surgery. Read Past Outlooks

Could still play for team in 2025
The 49ers remain committed to getting Aiyuk (knee) "healthy and back on the field" in 2025, even though the team had approximately $27 million in guarantees for the 2026 season voided in his contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dianna Russini and Michael Silver of The Athletic broke the news Friday about Aiyuk's guaranteed money for 2026 being voided after the 49ers asserted that he failed to fulfill contractual obligations, but head coach Kyle Shanahan noted Saturday that the financial maneuver happened back in late July, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Shanahan didn't offer many specifics regarding what led to the team's decision to void the guaranteed money, but the coach acknowledged that Aiyuk remains engaged with the team and was at the 49ers' facility doing rehab work for his surgically repaired right knee as recently as Friday. While the 49ers remain optimistic Aiyuk will contribute at some point this season, a target date for his potential debut won't become clearer until the team opens his 21-day practice window. If Aiyuk doesn't end up playing before the season ends, his time in San Francisco could well be over, as the 49ers may be keen on moving on from the wideout during the offseason. A trade would likely be the preferred route if the 49ers part ways with Aiyuk; if he's released outright with no post-June 1 designation, San Francisco would incur a dead-cap charge of $29.585 million.

How does the Panthers pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. How do Brandon Aiyuk's measurables compare to other wide receivers?
This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Aiyuk and Brock Purdy formed perhaps the most efficient QB/WR duo in the league last season, with 105 passes producing 75 catches (71.4 percent) for 1,342 yards (17.9 YPR, 12.8 YPT) and seven touchdowns. The 2020 first-round pick topped his previous career high for catch rate by three percentage points despite having a sky-high 13.8 aDOT after three straight seasons in the 9.4-9.9 range. That catch rate will be nearly impossible to replicate without the aDOT (and YPR) declining, but Aiyuk still projects as one of the most efficient receivers in the league, catching passes from Purdy in a Kyle Shanahan offense that boasts three other excellent playmakers (Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle). It was Aiyuk who led the group in targets last year, albeit by a small margin with each of the four drawing at least 83 looks. He's now scheduled to play out his age-26 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, presumably hoping to sign an extension this spring/summer (and perhaps considering a holdout if nothing gets done). While no speed demon -- he ran a 4.50 40 at 6-0. 205 pounds in 2020 -- Aiyuk is unusually fluid/quick for someone so stoutly built and tracks balls downfield as naturally as any receiver in the league. He might be a 140-target guy in another offense, but it's hard to imagine him seeing that kind of volume for the Niners unless their other key playmakers have a brutal year for injuries. Of course, he's already shown he doesn't need huge volume to put up strong numbers in such a favorable situation efficiency-wise.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Door still open for return
Aiyuk may not have played his last game for the 49ers, despite his prolonged recovery from knee surgery and the team voiding the guaranteed money remaining on his contract over the summer, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The situation with Aiyuk remains murky, but back in July, San Francisco apparently voided the guaranteed money on the contract extension he signed in August 2024 as a result of him failing to follow the team's rehab program. How much that has impacted his recovery is also uncertain, but coach Kyle Shanahan has suggested Aiyuk is close to being ready to practice again. While the contract situation would suggest the team is prepared to wash its hands of the 27-year-old wideout, publicly the Niners are saying that he would be welcome back in the lineup once he gets cleared to return.
