Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rush was relegated to mop-up duty last season, as Dak Prescott was healthy for a full season for the first time in four years. Rush didn’t do much when he did get on the field, posting a 6.0 YPA with only two completions longer than 20 yards (on 24 attempts). The Cowboys seem content with Rush’s game-managing skills, and Trey Lance, for whom Dallas traded just before Week 1 last season, never challenged him for the backup job. Perhaps that changes this season. Lance certainly is more physically skilled than Rush and far more mobile -- in the last three seasons, Rush has -7 rushing yards on 30 carries. If Lance’s accuracy finally comes around, he would have more upside, both to the Cowboys and fantasy owners, than Rush. Read Past Outlooks

Remains starter
Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that Rush will remain the Cowboys' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rush will make his third consecutive start in Week 12, even though the Cowboys have been outscored 68-16 in losses to the Eagles and Texans over the past two games. With Dallas trailing by at least two scores for much of Monday's game against Houston, Rush dropped back 60 times on the night, taking five sacks while completing 32 of 55 pass attempts for a touchdown and a career-high 354 yards. Though Rush's 6.4 yards per attempt were a stark improvement from his 2.0 average against the Eagles, he still threw a costly first-quarter interception in Houston territory and also fumbled twice, one of which was returned for a Texans TD. Rush may be on a shorter leash in Week 12, with McCarthy acknowledging that he'll also have a package of plays available for backup quarterback Trey Lance, who offers more of a threat as a runner.

Another Dak Prescott injury landed Rush under center again in 2022, and the 29-year-old Central Michigan product won four straight starts before falling to the Eagles in Week 6. His efficiency took a step back, however, and those victories owed more to Dan Quinn's defense than Rush's arm. With coordinator Kellen Moore leaving to take over the Chargers offense, Rush's knowledge of Moore's scheme no longer is a plus, and he could face a stiff challenge for the No. 2 quarterback job in training camp from the more athletically gifted Will Grier, a third-round pick of the Panthers in 2019, and Trey Lance, for whom the Cowboys traded in late August.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing third straight start Sunday
Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Wednesday that Rush will remain the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rush's job security was presumably hanging by a thread heading into Monday night's loss to the Texans after he'd thrown for only 45 yards against the Eagles in Week 10, but the veteran signal-caller finished the game with 354 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. While that elevated yardage figure is fairly deceptive considering Dallas mustered only 10 points in the 24-point defeat, Rush's overall body of work was apparently enough to persuade McCarthy to give him an opportunity against an improving Commanders defense in Sunday's road matchup.
