2025 Fantasy Outlook
Schultz is coming off a down year in 2024, with 53 catches for 532 yards and two touchdowns on 85 targets representing his lowest marks in each category since 2019, even though he didn't miss any games. Over the four preceding campaigns – three in Dallas and one in Houston – Schultz averaged 64 catches for 659 yards and 5.5 TDs on 93 targets. The lack of touchdowns in 2024 may not just be a bad-luck outlier, either, as Schultz was targeted only twice inside the opponent’s 10-yard line all season, experiencing a further decline from his modest total of five such targets in 2023. The Texans still have their top TD scorers from last season, RB Joe Mixon and WR Nico Collins, and they improved their WR group this offseason with a trade for Christian Kirk and a pair of Day 2 draft picks (Iowa State teammates Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel). On the bright side, Schultz is likely to maintain the top spot on Houston’s tight end depth chart over Brevin Jordan and 2024 fourth-round pick Cade Stover, both of whom are recovering from significant injuries. Limited to three catches in win
Schultz brought in two of three targets for 24 yards in the Texans' 26-15 win over the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end was coming off a season-best 9-98-0 receiving line on 10 targets versus the Seahawks on Monday night, but even with top two receivers Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) both sidelined, he was unable to build upon that production. Schultz downturn was surprising in that context, as he finished with season lows in receptions, receiving yards and targets. Schultz will look to bounce back in Week 9 against a tough Broncos defense, and he could once again play without at least one of his two injured wide receiver teammates.

Schultz forwent the opportunity to be the top tight end on the free-agent market for a second consecutive offseason, instead re-signing with the Texans this March on a three-year, $36 million contract. His first year in Houston was similar statistically to Schultz’s last three campaigns in Dallas; the 6-foot-5, 244-pound tight end caught 59 of 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns in 15 appearances for the Texans, after averaging 66 catches for 667 yards and 5.7 TDs from 2020 to 2022. C.J. Stroud led all qualified quarterbacks in passing yards per game as a rookie, and while Schultz finished second on the team in targets, Stroud’s preference for pushing the ball downfield elevated the Texans’ wide receivers more so than their tight ends and running backs. Nonetheless, Schultz has a long track record of success and a skilled quarterback throwing him the ball, which is a recipe for respectable fantasy production even if he's only the fourth option in Houston's passing game behind WRs Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Clear top TE with Stover on IR
Schultz is set to operate as the clear top tight end for the Texans after the team placed Cade Stover on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Stover will miss at least four weeks due to a broken foot he sustained in Houston's Week 1 loss to the Rams. Schultz and Stover split opportunities in that game, with Stover catching all four of his targets for 22 yards while Schultz caught three of five targets for 28 yards. With Stover joining Brevin Jordan and Irv Smith, who are dealing with knee and ankle injuries, respectively, on injured reserve, Schultz is set to command a near-monopoly on tight end targets for the duration of Stover's absence.
