Phillips secured a significant role as a rookie last season, starting six of the 14 games in which he played and logging at least two-thirds of the defensive snaps on 11 occasions. The Kentucky product finished with 71 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception while mostly manning the slot.
