Reed has avoided significant decline despite turning 32 years old last December, as he has posted 99 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks over the past two seasons with the Seahawks. He was rewarded with a three-year, $25 million extension this offseason. The 2016 second-round pick should continue to be a fixture on Seattle's defensive line alongside Byron Murphy and Leonard Williams, likely averaging around 35-40 snaps per game. Read Past Outlooks

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said that Reed (thumb) underwent wrist surgery Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Reed landed on injured reserve Saturday, and after Sunday's 44-22 win over the Cardinals, the veteran defensive lineman will have to miss at least three more games before being eligible to play again. Mike Morris and Brandon Pili will continue to see more defensive snaps for as long as Reed is sidelined.

Reed's first season back in Seattle was a resounding success, as he posted career highs in tackles (54) and sacks (7.0) through 15 games. Nevertheless, the Seahawks continue to plan for the future by taking DT Byron Murphy 16th overall in this year's draft. The selection could affect Reed's playing time immediately, but it's more likely that Murphy is eased into the lineup while possibly taking snaps at DE, too.
Reed is back in Seattle on a two-year, $10.8 million deal after spending the last two seasons with the Chiefs and Packers, respectively. In that time, he totaled 95 tackles (52 solo), five sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries through 34 games. He's expected to start on the defensive line, and his ability to play both defensive tackle and end will help the Seahawks now that Al Woods and Shelby Harris are gone.
After spending a year with the Chiefs, Reed linked up with the Packers over the offseason. He started every game he appeared in over the last five seasons, putting him in position to do the same in his first year in Green Bay.
Reed signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in March and figures to play a sizable role alongside star defensive tackle Chris Jones, presumably taking snaps away from the likes of Derrick Nnadi and Tershawn Wharton. Reed has amassed 115 tackles (64 solo) and 19 sacks over the last three seasons.
After serving a six-game suspension to start last season, Reed was back in a three-down role on the Seahawks defensive front. He averaged nearly 50 defensive snaps per game and rung up a combined 27 tackles, two sacks and a pass breakup. He doesn't have much IDP upside, but the 27-year-old is locked into major reps after inking a two-year, $23 million deal in March.
Reed's breakout 10-5 sack performance in 2018 likely eased the Seahawks worries about trading Frank Clark during the offseason. That sack number could see some regression in 2019, though, as opposing offenses won't have to focus on Clark, who was traded to Kansas City, and instead the older and oft-injured Ezekiel Ansah. Although he's still an impressive run-stopper, Reed's IDP value should be questioned appropriately because of the Clark trade.
Reed, who is a 2016 second-round pick, played in reserve roles during his first two seasons, but he got starter-sized snap counts in 2017 when Nazair Jones injured his ankle. Reed finished the season with 45 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and he's expected to start Week 1 at nose tackle. However, without a consistent pass rush, Reed isn't marked as a top IDP asset.
The 6-3, 306, Reed is expected to start at defensive tackle this season. But whereas last year he played mostly as a run-stuffing DT, this season he could be used more as an inside pass rusher. He also needs to say healthy after dealing with leg and toe injuries last season. Like most defensive tackles, though, his IDP value is limited, but his developing game will be key for the defensive line.

The Cowboys are "exploring" the idea of signing Reed (undisclosed), Mike Fisher of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reed finished the 2020 season with 38 tackles and 6.5 sacks, but the Seahawks ultimately chose to save salary-cap space by letting him go after attempting to find a trade partner. The 2016 second-round pick was a full-time starter over the last three seasons, and he's a steady contributor as a run stuffer and pass rusher. The Cowboys could use the help on the defensive line after letting up 158.8 rushing yards per game in 2020 -- the second-most in the league.
