McKinstry was thrust into a starting role as a rookie due to a rash of injuries in New Orleans' secondary. The 2024 second-round pick acquitted himself well with 42 tackles and six pass defenses over 15 regular-season games (nine starts), though he never grabbed an interception. He also totaled just two career interceptions while in college at Alabama. McKinstry has a clear path to a start again in 2025, but he'll need to register more takeaways to warrant significant IDP utility. McKinstry was projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he fell to the second round after undergoing surgery for a Jones fracture in his right foot. The Alabama product is expected to be healthy for the start of the regular season, and, after starting 33 collegiate games, he has the size, physicality and experience to compete for a significant role, likely as a boundary cornerback, during his rookie season. Additionally, McKinstry's experience returning punts could help him carve out a spot on special teams.
