Strong interior presence for Lions
DTDetroit Lions
January 29, 2025
Onwuzurike finished the 2024 regular season with 28 tackles (16 solo), including 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 16 games.
ANALYSIS
Onwuzurike didn't have eye-popping numbers in 2024, but the fourth-year player out of Washington gave opposing offensive lines plenty of trouble with his relentless pass rush. His fifth-year option was declined by Detroit, which means he enters the 2025 offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Onwuzurike should garner plenty of interest from teams looking to solidify the interiors of their defensive lines, such as the Patriots, who hired former Lions' defensive line coach Terrell Williams on Jan. 22 to serve as New England's defensive coordinator under head coach Mike Vrabel.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2021
Yet to provide much return on Detroit's second-round investment in 2021, Onwuzurike enters his third season in a rotational role after missing all of 2022 with a back injury. Whether he sees most of his time inside or outside of the defensive line remains to be seen, but expectations should remain in check for the high-pedigree player who first needs to earn a role before commanding any fantasy consideration.
Onwuzurike is no lock to be ready for Week 1 after injuring his back during training camp. When healthy, the 2021 second-round draft pick should be a key rotational piece along the Lions' defensive line.
A second-round draft pick out of Washington, Onwuzurike could serve a key role at defensive end as the Lions defense primarily transitions to a 3-4 scheme.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could follow Glenn to NY
DTDetroit Lions
February 20, 2025
Onwuzurike is a logical fit for the Jets in free agency, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The Jets need to sign or draft a defensive tackle to start next to Quinnen Williams in the team's base 4-3 defense, and Onwuzurike could help fill that need. New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is intimately familiar with Onwuzurike considering Glenn served as Detroit's defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2024, coinciding with Onwuzurike's tenure with the Lions. After being held back by injuries early in his career, Onwuzurike performed well for the Lions in 2024, making 10 starts among his 16 regular-season appearances and recording 1.5 sacks among his 28 tackles.
