2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hockenson played the final 10 games of the 2024 season, returning from a torn ACL suffered at the end of 2023, but he never quite regained his pre-injury form, finishing with 455 receiving yards and no touchdowns. He caught 95 of 127 targets for 960 yards and five TDs in 2023, ranking second among TEs in targets and catches, as well as fourth in yards. A normal offseason without rehabbing from major surgery should help Hockenson regain explosiveness for his age-28 campaign ahead, but he’ll have to jostle for targets with the standout WR duo of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in an offense quarterbacked by an unknown quantity, 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. While Hockenson was a fantasy starter for years in Detroit even with poor QB play, it wasn't until playing with Kirk Cousins that he became a high-end TE1 rather than a mid-range option. A return to the first tier of tight ends, or at least to the second tier, will depend on Hockenson regaining his pre-injury athleticism and McCarthy being an adequate starting QB. Read Past Outlooks
Leading receiver in shutout loss
Hockenson corralled all six of his targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Hockenson was the lone bright spot for Minnesota's passing offense after converting all of his targets into a team-high 59 yards. The 27-year-old tied his previous season best with six receptions, while the yardage did represent a new high-water mark in an otherwise disappointing campaign. With a 44-358-2 receiving line through 12 starts, Hockenson is providing the bare minimum at a shallow fantasy position for managers this season. That said, he offers little upside against the Commanders next Sunday.

There are two major question marks surrounding Hockenson heading into the 2024 season. The first is health, with the 27-year-old in danger of missing the early part of the season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee Dec. 26. Hockenson underwent surgery in late January, and even an optimistic nine-month recovery timetable wouldn't have him ready for Week 1. It will presumably take even longer to get back to his impressive pre-injury production, especially given the other cloud hanging over Hockenson's fantasy forecast: the questionable efficacy of new Vikings QB Sam Darnold. Prior to the injury last year, Hockenson was having his best fantasy season yet, and even after a pair of missed games he finished second among tight ends in targets (127) and catches (95) and fourth in yards (960). That production included 42 catches for 482 yards and two TDs in seven games after Cousins tore his Achilles tendon Week 8, with Hockenson continuing to shine in an offense that still had plenty of passing volume but lesser efficiency. Unfortunately, we may not see that version of him again until late 2024 or even 2025.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Big role sans top wideouts
Hockenson is in line to see more targets in the passing game from J.J. McCarthy due to Jordan Addison being suspended for the first three games of the season and Jalen Nailor working through a hand injury.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings did bring in Adam Thielen in a trade with the Panthers on Wednesday, but Hockenson's familiarity with the offense and his 6-foot-5 frame should make him McCarthy's second-favorite target behind All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson. Hockenson missed the first seven games of the 2024 regular season while recovering from an ACL tear, but he played in the final 10 games and finished with 41 catches on 62 targets for 455 yards. Even when Addison and Nailor return, Hockenson should still have a prominent role for himself in the Vikings' offense.
