Lands on IR with hamstring injury

October 24, 2024
The Rams placed Reeder (hamstring) on injured reserve Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Reeder was unable to practice during the Rams' short week due to a hamstring injury, which appears severe enough for him to warrant a stint on injured reserve. As a result, Reeder will be forced to sit out for at least the next four regular-season games, and the earliest he can return is Week 12 against the Eagles on Nov. 24. Michael Hoecht and Omar Speights will use Thursday's game against the Vikings as an opportunity to make a case for the starting linebacker job alongside Christian Rozeboom while Reeder is sidelined.

2020
After spending his first four NFL seasons in Los Angeles with both the Rams and Chargers, Reeder will make his home in Minnesota in 2023 as a rotational inside linebacker.
Reeder signed a minor deal with the Chargers in April after stepping up as the main inside linebacker for the Rams a year ago. Coming off a year in which he set career highs in tackles (91), passes defensed (six) and interceptions (two), the former undrafted linebacker will compete for a starting spot with Drue Tranquill and Kenneth Murray. Reeder's familiarity with Brandon Staley's defense could help him earn more snaps than some might expect, but his lack of range in coverage might cap his overall opportunities.
Reeder has proved in consecutive seasons that when given a starter's workload, he can move the fantasy needle and pad his tackle total. He started 15 of 32 games during that span and was strong down the stretch last year, with 60 tackles (38 solo) over the final six games of the regular season. Reeder likely will be competing for playing time in 2021, so it may be best to take a wait-and-see approach in IDP settings until his usage and role in the defense are clear.
An overachiever out of FCS Delaware, the undrafted free agent carved out a role for the Rams in the linebacker rotation and on special teams. Reeder was particularly effective Weeks 5 and 6, when he played 102 of 152 defensive snaps and racked up an impressive 24 tackles (16 solo). While those numbers are impressive, his 88th-ranked Pro Football Focus grade among linebackers highlights his on-field shortcomings. If he receives consistent playing time, there's potential for him to provide a meaningful tackle total, but Reeder is far from a sure thing.
