Tuesday's NHL slate features 11 games after 7:00 p.m. EST. There were originally 11 games on the schedule, but Senators-Devils has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak among Ottawa's team. Below, you'll find a breakdown of the action and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
There's no shortage of options to choose from here, but some games make more sense to target than others. The Blues are by far the night's largest favorites at home against the lowly Coyotes, followed by the Penguins against the visiting Sabres. Other clear favorites include the Maple Leafs (vs. Nashville), Wild (vs. San Jose), Rangers (vs. Montreal) and Stars (vs. Detroit). The Pittsburgh and Minnesota games are also tied for the slate's highest over/under at 6.0 goals, along with the Oilers-Jets and Hurricanes-Golden Knights matchups.
GOALIES
Jordan Binnington, STL vs. ARI ($8,500): Arizona's off to a historically bad start, having been outscored 59-23 en route to a 1-13-1 record. Binnington should help add to the Coyotes' struggles, as he boasts a 6-3-2 record, 2.80 GAA and .915 save percentage. Binnington has scuffled a bit recently, but he won't get a better bounce-back opportunity than this.
Igor Shesterkin, NYR vs. MON ($8,000): Shesterkin's season is off to a phenomenal start, with a 7-2-2 record, 2.46 GAA and .929 save percentage. His success should continue on home ice against a Montreal team that's averaging only 2.12 goals per game -- second-fewest in the league. Shesterkin stopped 31 of 32 shots in a 3-1 road win when these two teams met exactly a month ago.
Sergei Bobrovsky, FLA vs. NYI ($7,900): Bobrovsky's right up there with his countryman Shesterkin as far as goalies building an early Vezina Trophy case, as Bob's 6-0-2 with a 1.88 GAA and .940 save percentage. He'll get an excellent opportunity to strengthen his case on home ice against an Islanders team that's playing its second road game in as many nights and averaging just 2.33 goals per game.
Dustin Tokarski, BUF at PIT ($7,000): If you'd rather eschew the more obvious choices in net in favor of an against-the-grain play, then turning to Buffalo's goalie of choice could be a smart move, be it Tokarski or another option. The reeling Penguins have won only once in their last five games and twice in the last nine. At least Pittsburgh could previously look forward to Sidney Crosby's return as a possible turning point, but a 6-1 loss to the Capitals on Sunday with Crosby in the lineup will have the Penguins feeling downright dejected as the Sabres come to town.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
Leon Draisaitl, EDM at WPG ($8,800): It's hard to think of an $8,800 player as a value option, but you can make the argument that Draisaitl offers better bang for the buck than anyone. He's averaging more than one goal and two points per game, with a 15-16-31 line through 14 contests. That's three goals clear of second-place Alex Ovechkin and four points ahead of teammate Connor McDavid for the league lead in both categories. If you want to expand past Draisaitl, then forming a stack around him, McDavid and the remainder of Edmonton's top power-play unit should pay dividends against the Jets' 30th-ranked penalty kill (65.8 percent).
Troy Terry, ANH vs. WAS ($5,500): Terry's point streak lives on, and it now stands at 14 games (11 goals, nine assists). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. At just $5,500, Terry can remain a fixture in DFS lineups until he's finally held off the scoresheet. He ranks 13th among healthy skaters in this slate with 13.8 fantasy points per game, and Terry has the lowest valuation among the top 21 options by that metric, with Vladimir Tarasenko ($6,200) coming in second-lowest.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, WPG vs. EDM ($5,000): Winnipeg will need to score to keep up with Draisaitl and the Oilers, but the Jets have the firepower to do so, and Dubois is a key component of their effective attack. The 23-year-old center is having the breakout campaign many expected when he was dealt to Winnipeg last season, with an 8-6-14 line through 14 games. Despite that success, he's available at a reasonable $5,000 valuation. If Dubois continues to build on his hot start, it won't be long until his valuation jets higher.
Andrew Mangiapane, CGY at PHI ($4,900): All Mangiapane does is score goals, especially on the road. As if his 10 goals through 15 games weren't impressive enough already, nine of them have come in nine road games. His sub-$5,000 valuation makes Mangiapane an appealing option in Philadelphia against a Flyers team that could be a bit dejected after learning that top defenseman Ryan Ellis just aggravated his lower-body injury.
Nick Ritchie, TOR vs. NSH ($2,600): Ritchie flopped in a top-line role to begin the season, but coach Sheldon Keefe is ready to give the trio of Ritchie, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner another shot together. As long as Ritchie sticks in this spot besides two of the league's top scorers, he'll have appeal as a value play at just $100 above the minimum price.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Blues vs. Coyotes
Robert Thomas (C - $3,800), Ivan Barbashev (W - $3,300), Vladimir Tarasenko (W - $6,200)
This line gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to stack against the atrocious Coyotes defense without breaking the bank, so you can still target pricier options from other games. As mentioned earlier, Tarasenko would be a strong value regardless of opponent based on his production so far, but his value goes through the roof against an Arizona team that's allowing a league-high 3.93 goals per game. The Russian sniper has a 7-7-14 line through 14 games and has tacked on 53 shots, good for ninth league-wide. Thomas has overtaken Tarasenko in points with 15, including seven in his last three games. Barbashev has more skill than initially meets the eye, as evidenced by his 4-5-9 line.
Rangers vs. Canadiens
Ryan Strome (C - $4,700), Artemi Panarin (W - $6,900), Kaapo Kakko (W - $2,500)
If Jake Allen(concussion) still isn't ready to go, the Canadiens will presumably turn back to Samuel Montembeault in net. That would be great news for all the Rangers' prospective goal-scorers, as Montembeault's career 3.29 GAA and .891 save percentage suggest his current 3.77 and .890 marks this season aren't expected to get much better. This line should lead the way for the Rangers' offense, starting with Panarin, who's playing at a point-per-game pace through 15 and has tied his season high with six shots in each of the past two, as he's emphasized a more aggressive approach of late. Strome's an underrated scorer who has 116 points in 137 games since the start of the 2019-20 campaign, and he's put together a 1-3-4 line during an active three-game point streak. Kakko has been struggling with confidence, but coach Gerard Gallant has stuck with him on this line, and the 2019 second-overall pick validated that decision with a goal and an assist Sunday against the Devils, as well as a tally in the shootout, which the Rangers eventually won.
Stars vs. Red Wings
Roope Hintz (C - $5,900), Joe Pavelski ( W - $5,400), Jason Robertson ( W - $5,100)
Dallas' top-line trio has officially heated up, and a Red Wings team that's allowing the most shots (34.5) and ninth-most goals (3.24) is unlikely to slow them down. Hintz got off to shockingly slow start after ecliping a point-per-game pace last season, but he has found his game, with a 2-2-4 line over an active three-game point streak. Pavelski's point streak now spans six games and has included three goals, and it's no coincidence that they've started scoring since Robertson got back into the lineup. After having his season delayed by injury, Robertson has racked up six points in seven games.
DEFENSEMEN
Mario Ferraro, SJ at MIN ($4,200): Ferraro has morphed from a steady young blueliner to a dominant force right before our eyes, so lock him in before his valuation catches up to his production. Over the past seven games, Ferraro has averaged 14.2 fantasy points, never dipping below 9.7. In addition to his 1-4-5 line over that span offensively, the 23-year-old defenseman has chipped in a whopping 28 blocks in his own end.
Kris Letang, PIT vs. BUF ($7,000): If the Penguins are finally able to get back on track here, look for Letang to lead the way. He has a three-game point streak working and has put at least four pucks on net in four of his last seven games. Offensively gifted defensemen have found success against the Sabres recently -- among Buffalo's last three opponents, Morgan Rielly and John Carlson both lit the lamp while Tyson Barrie had eight shots on goal -- and Letang has the skills to add to that trend.
Shayne Gostisbehere, ARI at STL ($4,500): It's easy to overlook given how bad Arizona has been all season, but the Blues are in a bit of a rut themselves, having allowed 12 goals during their current 0-2-1 stretch. Gostisbehere represents Arizona's best hope of capitalizing on St. Louis' recent defensive woes, as his 12 points through 15 games easily lead the Coyotes, while no teammate has more than seven. Of those 12 points, seven have come in the past five games.
Jared Spurgeon, MIN vs. SJ ($5,500): Spurgeon's in a nice offensive groove at the moment, with a 2-4-6 line and 16 shots in his last six games. It can be hard to predict who will contribute on any given night in the balanced Wild attack, but Spurgeon's momentum and well-rounded game make him a solid choice at $5,500 with Minnesota favored on home ice.
