FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

It's a seven-game slate for Monday with the North Division taking center stage. Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid face off again as the Oilers visit the Maple Leafs (7 p.m. EDT), while the Flames try to crawl back into the playoff race hosting the Jets (10 p.m.)

GOALIES

Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. NYI ($8,400): He wasn't particularly sharp in his last outing, allowing three goals on 32 shots, but the Penguins are rolling despite injuries to key players, and save for one shutout loss, they've provided some good goal support against the Islanders. It's quite rare for the Isles to lose consecutive games, so they'll probably jump out with a better effort though not having Anders Lee is clearly impacting their offensive depth and overall play.

Cam Talbot, MIN at SJ ($8,300): The Sharks offense comes and goes, and recently it's been going. They've scored two goals or fewer in six of their past eight games, and Talbot has been excellent with three goals allowed in his past three games, including back-to-back wins.

Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK vs. LA ($8,200): There's some value to be had with Vegas' goalies, even if they start Robin Lehner. When the Kings can't get on the power play, their offense loses a lot of punch. Vegas is leading the season series 3-1 with a plus-3 differential in penalties. Fleury has struggled a bit lately and his numbers in March have tailed off considerably, but note Vegas is ninth in GF/GP.

Philipp Grubauer, COL vs. ANH ($8,100): This will be a popular pick because the Ducks don't demand much respect, and they've lost seven of their past nine. Credit to the Ducks, they've been able to keep the series close with three games going into extra time, but note the Avs are 3-1-1 and the Ducks may be without top winger Rickard Rakell and rookie defenseman Jamie Drysdale.

VALUE PLAYS

Anthony Beauvillier, NYI at PIT ($4,000): Beauvillier has provided some depth scoring with four goals in four games, making his line arguably more dangerous than Matt Barzal, Jordan Eberle and whatever left wing Barry Trotz can dig up.

Jared McCann, PIT vs. NYI ($3,700): McCann has scored five points in his past three games and continues to skate as the Pens' second-line center. He's getting a lot more opportunities on offense and capitalizing on them.

Brett Ritchie, CGY vs. WPG ($3,200): Ritchie wasn't particularly effective as the newest winger on Calgary's top line, and it remains to be seen if he will stay there, but there's really no one else they can use. Still, it's nice to get someone who plays with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau at this salary.

LINE STACKS

Flyers at Sabres

Sean Couturier (C - $7,400), James van Riemsdyk (W - $5,600), Travis Konecny (W - $5,600)

This line has looked good with Konecny slotting in for Joel Farabee, and this should be a good matchup for the Flyers. They've outshot their opponent in four straight games and except for a 6-1 loss have mostly dominated the Sabres this season. Linus Ullmark can be tough to beat but he's going to see a lot of volume.

Penguins vs. Islanders

Sidney Crosby (C - $8,300), Jake Guentzel (W - $7,500), Bryan Rust (W - $5,900)

Rust had a hat trick and Crosby and Guentzel pitched in with two points apiece in their last matchup. Crosby has haunted the Isles since he entered the league and he's one of the league's most consistent players.

Maple Leafs vs. Oilers

Auston Matthews (C - $8,300), Mitch Marner (W - $7,400), Joe Thornton (W - $3,800)

If we're looking at just combos, the combined salaries of Matthews and Marner ($15,700) is better value than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl ($17,500) and Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen ($17,400). McDavid alone usually tips the scales, but the Leafs have done a pretty good job of limiting his production (9 points in 8 games) so the difference between McDavid and Matthews may only be marginal.

DEFENSEMEN

Tyson Barrie, EDM at TOR ($6,500): I like Barrie's profile as a puck-moving defenseman who almost exclusively plays with Connor McDavid. That gives him a lot of fantasy upside, and I'm keeping an eye on Toronto's goaltending, which has been good but getting a little shaky and needed overtime to win their past two games. Barries' 5v5 CF% numbers compare favorably against most of the Leafs' roster, according to Natural Stat Trick, and falls only when he has to defend against Auston Matthews' line.

Kris Letang, PIT vs. NYI ($6,000): Letang's scored five points in his past three games and his 40 career points against the Isles is more than any other team he's ever faced.

Cale Makar, COL vs. ANH ($5,900): Makar ranks third in the league in P/GP among defensemen (min. 10 GP) and despite playing nearly 10 games fewer than everyone else, still ranks 16th in power-play points. The Ducks are routinely one of the league's most undisciplined teams with a minus-21 penalty differential that ranks 30th in the league.

Alec Martinez, VGK vs. LA ($4,700): If you're looking for a safe pick, Martinez is a consistent shot blocker and this season has offered up a lot of offense, too, scoring a point against every team in the West. He's equaled Shea Theodore with three points and leads the team with 13 blocked shots in four games against the Kings this season.
