The All-Star break is coming, so let's make the most of what we've got right now. There are five games on the NHL slate Tuesday, and here are my recommendations for your daily fantasy lineup.
GOALIE
Mikko Koskinen, EDM vs. DET ($7,400): Koskinen has seen his play dip a bit recently, but he's got a great matchup here. The Red Wings are 3-6-1 in their last 10 contests, and their offense has been pretty punchless. They've only averaged 2.80 goals and 29.3 shots on net per game, both of which are bottom 10 in the NHL.
CENTER
Nicklas Backstrom, WAS vs. SAN ($6,300): Backstrom has been his usual self this season, as he has 47 points in 47 games. He has 35 assists, and he's notched at least 50 assists in each of his last five campaigns. The Sharks have really struggled on the road, as they had a 3.68 GAA in away games heading into Monday. Now, they are once again on the road, but also on the second night of a back-to-back.
Brock Nelson, NYI at CHI ($5,400): Nelson has gone from being in the shadow of John Tavares to being in the shadow of Mathew Barzal, but don't overlook him. After all, he has 31 points to his name, and he's averaged 2:22 per game with the extra man. That last stat is the most notable one to me, because in addition to their 3.74 GAA, the Blackhawks have the league's worst penalty kill.
WING
Anders Lee, NYI at CHI ($6,600): Lee's shooting percentage has regressed a bit after a couple hot seasons where he totaled 74 goals, but he's still a strong scorer. The 28-year-old has 18 goals in 47 games, including eight with the extra man. As previously noted, the Blackhawks have a 3.74 GAA, which is second highest in the NHL.
Clayton Keller, ARI at OTT ($5,200): Keller has started 66.4 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Coyotes. He also has a point in his last three games, and a point in four of his last five contests. The Senators have a 3.76 GAA, highest in the NHL, and has also allowed 36.7 shots on net per game.
Jakub Vrana, WAS vs. SAN ($4,800): Vrana has provided some solid secondary scoring for the Capitals. The 22-year-old has spent most of the season on Washington's second line, and has tallied 15 goals in 48 games. The Sharks, who are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back, have a 3.68 GAA and .878 save percentage in away contests.
DEFENSE
Darnell Nurse, EDM vs. DET ($5,400): With Oscar Klefbom out, Nurse has been a different player. In his last 20 games he has 14 points, and he's averaged 3:04 per game with the extra man. The Wings have been poor on the road, as they have a 3.71 GAA and have allowed 33.9 shots on net per contest in away outings.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, ARI at OTT ($5,000): Like his teammate Keller, Ekman-Larsson has a three-game point streak. He's also averaged 3:37 per game on the power play, and he has 13 points with the extra man. In addition to their league-high 3.76 GAA, the Senators have the 29th-ranked penalty kill.
