We're already getting snow all over the country, as if you need another excuse to stay in Tuesday night with nine NHL games on the slate. That gives you a lot of roster options. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy lineup.
GOALIE
Carey Price, MON vs. CLM ($34): Price got off to a slow start, but he's turned it around since that rough patch. Over his last nine games he has a 2.36 GAA and .924 save percentage. The Blue Jackets seem to be missing the goal-scoring prowess of the likes of Artemi Panarin this year. Columbus has only managed 2.35 goals per game.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Jacob Markstrom, VAN vs. NAS ($31): Markstrom is off to a good start to the year, as he has a 2.47 GAA and .918 save percentage. However, he had a .912 save percentage in each of his last two campaigns. The Predators have scored 3.82 goals per game, second most in the NHL, so Markstrom is going to get a real test Tuesday.
CENTER
Adam Henrique, ANA vs. DET ($17): Henrique has five points over his last seven games. He's also notched eight goals to start the year. The 29-year-old hasn't notched a point with the extra man yet, but he's averaged 2:20 per game in power-play time, so that should change. It could certainly change here, as the Red Wings have the league's worst penalty kill.
CENTER TO AVOID
Logan Couture, SAN vs. EDM ($21): The Sharks have been largely punchless offensively, and Couture is part of that. While he does have 12 assists, he also has only two goals. The Oilers have been surprisingly staunch defensively this year, as they have a 2.47 GAA. They also have a top-five penalty kill for good measure.
WING
Mats Zuccarello, MIN at LOS ($15): Zuccarello has started 61.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Wild. This has helped him round into form after returning from injury, as he has seven points in his last nine contests. Don't be surprised if Zuccarello stays hot here, as the Kings have a 3.88 GAA, highest in the NHL.
Alex Galchenyuk, PIT at NYR ($15): Galchenyuk's first year in Pittsburgh has been hampered by injury, but he's been active since finally getting healthy. He only has one point over his last five games, but he's put 16 shots on goal. The Rangers have been quite porous defensively, as they've allowed a whopping 36.2 shots on net per game. If Galchenyuk is as active as he has been, he could finally break through in this one.
WINGS TO AVOID
Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA at BOS ($25): Huberdeau has been hot, but this is not the matchup to target Tuesday. The Bruins have a 2.41 GAA and a .923 save percentage, both top three in the NHL. With so many options available, you can do better than spending cash on Huberdeau and hoping he can stay hot against a staunch defense.
Chris Kreider, NYR vs. PIT ($18): As with Huberdeau, this is about the matchup more than the player. Matt Murray has a 2.34 GAA, in part because the Penguins have only allowed 29.2 shots on net per game. Kreider has averaged 4:06 per game with the extra man, but that may not help him in this one. Pittsburgh has the third-ranked penalty kill.
DEFENSE
Jeff Petry, MON vs. CLM ($18): Petry has had over 40 points in each of his last two seasons, and he already has 10 points in 17 games this year. He's up to 24:09 per game in ice time (and 2:55 on the power play) as well, so he's getting the most minutes of his career. Without Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets have a 3.41 GAA and .889 save percentage.
Cam Fowler, ANA vs. DET ($15): Fowler has tallied eight points through 18 games thus far. He's also played 2:57 per game with the extra man. As previously noted, the Red Wings have the league's worst penalty kill, but they also have a 3.79 GAA.
DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID
Erik Karlsson, SAN vs. EDM ($23): Karlsson has 10 assists, but he's struggled shooting the puck. He only has one goal and has only put 27 shots on net through 17 games. The Swede has usually been a weapon on the power play, but the Oilers have the fifth-ranked penalty kill, so Karlsson probably won't have much luck there.
Alexander Edler, VAN vs. NAS ($22): Edler has tallied 11 points in 18 games, but he's been scuffling on the power play recently. He hasn't notched a point with the extra man in his last 13 games. The Predators have a 3.06 GAA, but a lot of that has been the struggles of backup goalie Juuse Saros. Pekka Rinne has a 2.46 GAA.
