Career-best effort in win
FlyweightUFC

Chairez defeated C.J. Vergara via submission (face crank) at 2:30 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
It was by far the best performance we've seen to date from Chairez, and it came in a big spot in his native Mexico, in addition to earning him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Vergara had all sorts of trouble getting out of the starting block, and Edgar to full advantage. He floored the gas pedal and eventually clipped Vergara with a combo that dropped him. He then jumped on top and eventually took the back of his opponent. Chairez's initial rear-naked choke attempt didn't work, but Vergara had no intention of sticking around and tapped to the ensuing face crank. Now 2-2 (1NC) in his first five UFC bouts, Chairez's roster spot should be secure for a while following this strong effort.

Vergara up next
FlyweightUFC
November 21, 2024
Chairez will fight C.J. Vergara at UFC Mexico on March 29, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Chairez struggled with consistency during his latest loss to Joshua Van in September, but he'll have a decent chance to bounce back against Vergara, who has lost each of his last two fights.
Inconsistent ways continue
FlyweightUFC
September 14, 2024
Chairez lost to Joshua Van via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 306 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a tale of two fights, with Chairez dominating early on before starting to fade. He dominated the entirety of Round 1, landing a ton of leg kicks and keep Van off balance. The bout deteriorated into an all-out brawl in Round 2, and Chairez absorbed far too much damage, particularly to the body. He likely would have been finished had he not landed a miracle spinning blow that bought him some time. It allowed him to see the final bell, although a Round 3 takedown for Van ended any chance Edgar have of taking a decision. The 28-year-old drops to 1-2 (1NC) in four UFC bouts, in addition to suffering a defeat on Dana White's Contender Series.
Set for new opponent

Chairez will fight Joshua Van at Noche UFC on Sep. 14 after Kevin Borjas withdrew from the event, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear why Borjas withdrew from the fight, but now Chairez will prepare to take on Van on short notice, as the fight will happen in less than two weeks. Chairez has gone 1-1 with an NC in his three events at the UFC level, but it's worth noting that the lone win he conquered came against Daniel Lacerda in a bout where he weighed five pounds over the limit. As such, it's unclear how he'll manage to handle the threat of Van.
Will fight Kevin Borjas

July 3, 2024
Chairez is set to face Kevin Borjas in a flyweight fight at Noche UFC on September 14, Danny Segura of MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Chairez is coming off a victory after defeating Daniel Lacerda at UFC Fight Night in Mexico City back in February. Lacerda was considered a lower level opponent as he is winless after five bouts in the UFC. Edgar will now face Kevin Borjas, who is also looking for his first UFC victory after suffering defeats in his first two fights, recently losing Alessandro Costa via TKO at UFC 301 in Brazil.
Wins after huge weight miss
FlyweightUFC
February 24, 2024
Chairez defeated Daniel Lacerda via submission (triangle choke) at 2:17 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
A victory in just over two minutes as a -500 favorite seems like a nice night at the office for Chairez, but then you take into account he was facing an opponent that entered winless in five (0-4, 1NC) UFC bouts. Oh, Chairez also missed weight by a mind-blowing five pounds Friday morning. Edgar lost on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2022 and was routed by top prospect Tatsuro Taira in his UFC debut last July. There's a better than even chance this result was simply the result of Chairez beating up on a low-level opponent.
