Crushing knockout defeat in Vegas
LightweightUFC
December 6, 2025
Dawson lost to Manuel Torres via TKO (punches) at 2:25 of Round 1 at UFC 323 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Dawson entered with an 11-1 record with the UFC, but this is the type of performance as a -250 favorite that can all but remove you from the rankings in a loaded lightweight division. Dawson lives and dies with his wrestling. He attempted two takedowns against Torres and didn't come remotely close to landing either. That, combined with one huge combination from the Mexican power puncher was enough to put him away. Grant's chin has proven questionable, as his two setbacks with the company have come via knockout. The 31-year-old has a ways to go to rebound from this horrendous effort.

Dawson is slated to face off against Manuel Torres at UFC 323 on Dec. 6, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dawson has had some down time after dominating Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 311 in Los Angeles, cruising to a victory by unanimous decision. He owns an impressive 23-2 record in professional fights but will go up against an opponent in Torres who has emerged victorious in seven of his last eight bouts dating back to March of 2020.
Totally dominates in UFC 311 win
LightweightUFC
January 18, 2025
Dawson defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 311 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Dawson and his team deserve credit for recognizing a hole in Ferreira's game and exploiting it. Grant fired off a whopping 11 takedown attempts, landing six of them. Those six tries turned into 10:50 worth of control time and resulted in a 195-84 edge in terms of total strikes landed. The damage from top position wasn't as lopsided as those numbers would lead you to believe, but Dawson remained active enough to ensure he'd win an easy decision. He's now 11-1-1 in the UFC, with the one setback being a fluke 33-second knockout defeat to Bobby Green back in October 2023.

Dawson will fight Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 311 on Jan. 18, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Since suffering his first UFC loss in October 2023, Dawson has bounced back with two consecutive wins over Joe Solecki and Rafa Garcia. Ferreira has also won his last two bouts, though he's only fought once in the past 17 months.
Dominates as hefty favorite
LightweightUFC
October 12, 2024
Dawson defeated Rafa Garcia via TKO (strikes) at 1:42 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In a fight which lasted 6:42, Dawson was credited with 5:09 worth of control time. He landed 2-of-4 takedown attempts and closed with a 44-5 edge in terms of significant strikes landed. It was a dominating, suffocating performance from start to finish. Dawson would absolutely be getting title-implicating fights at 155 pounds had he not been knocked out by Bobby Green in 33 seconds almost exactly a year ago. As is, he's 10-1 (1NC) in a dozen fights with the company. He needs a step up in competition his next time out. He's earned it.
Books next fight for October

July 16, 2024
Dawson will match up against Rafa Garcia at a UFC event on Oct. 12, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The American lightweight is coming off a dominating win over Joe Solecki via unanimous decision, and will look to start a new winning streak as his original streak was broken back in October from a knockout at the hands of Bobby Green. Dawson will take on Garcia, who hasn't fought since April of 2023.
