Hamdy Abdelwahab
Rolls through Chris Barnett
Abdelwahab defeated Chris Barnett via unanimous decision (29-26, 29-27, 29-27) at UFC 321 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
From strictly a numbers standpoint, Abdelwahab was a dominant as could be in this fight. He closed with a 170-28 edge in total strikes landed, connected on 9-of-14 takedown attempts, and racked up 10:48 worth of control time. That's the good news. The bad news is that he was (correctly) docked a point by referee Marc Goddard in Round 1 for repeated blows to the back of the head, combined with the fact he was unable to get Barnett -- who really appeared to have zero interest in fighting this evening -- out of there. Hamdy is a decent wrestler for a heavyweight, but he doesn't really appear to be improving much despite sporting a 2-1 (1NC) record in his first four UFC bouts.

Next fight booked for October
Abdelwahab will fight Chris Barnett at UFC 321 on Oct. 25, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdelwahab will get a shot to bounce back after falling to Mohammed Usman via unanimous decision back in June. The 6-foot-2 heavyweight will head into October still with not much UFC experience (1-1-1 record), so he'll have much to prove against a much more seasoned Barnett.

Drops Baku opener
Abdelwahab lost to Mohammed Usman via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Baku, Azerbaijan.
ANALYSIS
Already competing for a second time in 2025, Abdelwahab showed little as a -170 favorite. He managed to win what was a slow-paced Round 1 before things fell apart. Hamdy is a low-volume striker, and once Usman picked up the pace over the course of the final 10 minutes, Abdelwahab was done. The 32-year-old has just eight professional fights under his belt, including three (1-1, 1NC) bouts with the UFC. The upside here is extremely minimal.

Usman date moved
Abdelwahab's scheduled heavyweight matchup against Mohammed Usman has been moved from May 17 to June 21, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The May 17 card was scheduled for Qatar but currently appears to be in question, though the UFC has yet to officially announce a location for its June 21 event. Regardless of location, Abdelwahab will look to extend his winning streak to two against Usman, who has lost back-to-back fights.

ANALYSIS
Abdelwahab defeated Jamal Pogues via split decision in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 1 after a long layoff, as this was his first fight since July 2022, but it seems he's ready to step on the octagon once again. The 32-year-old doesn't have a lot of experience for someone his age, but he'll look to deliver another impressive bout against an opponent that has dropped his last two fights.

Wins in return from long layoff
Abdelwahab defeated Jamal Pogues via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
ANALYSIS
Fighting for the first time since July 2022, Hamdy once again has his first UFC win under his belt. Of course, he defeated Don'Tale Mayes that evening before it was changed to a no-contest. Although he got the win here, Abdelwahab didn't show much. He landed just 44 significant strikes and connected on his only takedown attempt. With just a handful of pro fights under his belt at age 32, there's little upside here.
