Dominant showing in main event

Spivac defeated Derrick Lewis via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:05 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Easy work. Some thought Spivac was being overvalued as a -300 favorite, but it ended up being nowhere near enough. Wisely recognizing the easiest way to defeat Lewis is to force him to move his feet and defend, Spivac landed 6-of-8 takedown attempts in a fight which lasted barely three minutes. He was credited with 2:32 worth of control time, in addition to the arm-triangle choke which closed the show. On the flip side, Lewis didn't land a single strike of any kind. It was a legitimate flawless victory for Spivac. Sergey has no history of defeating better competition -- Lewis doesn't qualify these days -- but he's won three straight (all via stoppage) and six of his last seven. This one also would go on to earn him one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses handed out on the evening. Perhaps a rematch between Spivac and Tybura, who also won on this card, makes some sense. The two fought in February 2020, with Tybura winning via unanimous decision.

Improves to 5-1 in past six bouts

August 6, 2022
Spivac defeated Augusto Sakai via TKO (punches) at 3:42 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Full marks to Spivac for recognizing an area in which he had a massive advantage over his opponent and exploiting it. Spivac fired off eight takedown attempts in the fight, landing a half dozen of them. That turned into 6:37 worth of control time and allowed Spivac to land 86 total strikes, almost all of which came from a dominant position. Referee Mark Smith was really close to stopping the bout in multiple occasions and finally pulled the plug in the latter stages of Round 2. Spivac continues to be an underrated member of the heavyweight division, picking up wins in five of his past six bouts. It's important to note those five victories came against Sakai, Greg Hardy, Aleksei Oleinik, Jared Vanderaa, and Carlos Felipe, while the loss came against the best opponent Spivac has faced to date in Tom Aspinall, so it would be nice to see the 27-year-old Moldovan secure a win against quality competition.

ANALYSIS
Spivac was impressive in his last bout getting a first round TKO of Greg Hardy back in March. He has quietly won four of his last five bouts. Spivac will be taking on a fighter going in the opposite direction in Sakai, who has been knocked out in his last three bouts.
