Mateus Fernandes
21-Year-Old

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fernandes posted a solid inaugural EPL season in 2024/25. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder joined Saints from Sporting at the start of the season, he was unable to break into the starting lineup there and spent the 2023/24 season on loan to Estoril Praia. His attacking statistics from 2024/25 do not represent the high work rate he exhibited on the field; from 36 appearances (34 starts) he netted two and provided four assists, but he consistently showed strength in long crosses, high pressing and tackling (2.5 per game). He was starved of service and support last season but he will have a good chance to ratchet up a better goal tally in the Championship as he and his teammates faces second tier competition.
Assists opener Saturday
Fernandes assisted once to go with zero corners and two chances created in Saturday's 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
ANALYSIS
Fernandes set up the opening goal of Saturday's match with an assist on Crysencio Summerville's goal in the 15th minute. It was one of two chances he created in the match and it marked his fourth goal contribution of the season. He played well on the defensive end too as he intercepted four passes, made four clearances and won two tackles before he was subbed off in the 96th minute for Maximilian Kilman.

Southampton have rejected West Ham's first approach for Fernandes, according to The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The Saints aren't keen on parting ways with Fernandes unless a club meets their valuation. West Ham's opening offer for 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder was worth £30 million plus add-ons. They'll need to aim higher if they're going to complete the signature of the talented playmaker before the end of the transfer period.
