Announces retirement
Alonso has announced his retirement from professional football after 18 years, ending his career with the Atlanta organization.
ANALYSIS
Alonso started his career playing in his home country in Cuba, with the Pinar del Rio Organizarion. He started his journey playing professionally in the United States in 2008, and had not looked back since after first joining USL side Charleston Battery. From there, he spent most of his career with Seattle, scoring 21 goals and 14 assists in 339 appearances in all competitions from 2009-18. Alonso spent his last few years in both Minnesota and Atlanta. The midfielder also was an active member of the Cuban national team, making 17 appearances with two goals. He will end his career as an MLS Cup champion, a four time U.S Open Cup winner, and one MLS Supporters Shield winner.
