MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings Top Plays and Strategy for Tuesday, September 23

We have 11 games to work with on the main slate Tuesday, which kicks off at 7:05 pm EDT. There are two smaller offerings on DK as well, with contests that include four games kicking off at 6:35 pm and another set of contests that include six games at 9:38 pm. As usual, our focus will be on the main slate.

Pitchers

It's a strong day for pitching name value, though it's the time of the year when caution is needed. Starters can get pulled quickly for teams with nothing to play for to protect innings, and they can also be pulled quickly in must-win games. That can be difficult to predict, but it's a context worth keeping in mind as we make our pitcher selections.

There are three interesting pitchers priced at $9,000 or above. Logan Webb ($9,800) and Hurston Waldrep ($9,000) both stand out due to their combination of skills and matchup. Webb draws a Cardinals' lineup that has struck out at a 24.8 percent clip in the last month while maintaining only a .284 wOBA. Waldrep gets the Pirates, who have consistently been one of the worst lineups in the league throughout the year.

Similarly, two pitchers stand out in the $8,000 range. The first is Cade Horton ($8,500), who has consistently contributed over 20 DK points in his starts. There should be some caution due to a matchup against the Mets, who have hit well despite their slide down the standings. Shohei Ohtani ($8,000) won't pitch deep into his matchup against Arizona, and the Diamondbacks are also a tough matchup. However, his skills and surface stats have stabilized since a brief slump on the mound.

It's a top-heavy day at the position, but Cristian Javier ($6,800) and Patrick Corbin ($6,600) are punt options to consider. Javier has at least 13 DK points in three of his last four starts, including marks of 17.9 and 23.7. A matchup in Sacramento isn't ideal, but there are limited cheap options to work with. Corbin is in the opposite situation. He has a solid matchup against the Twins but has limited strikeout upside. Corbin is the safer option, with Javier having the more desirable skillset.

Top Hitters

There's a strong case to make for stacking Royals' hitters against Sam Aldegheri in Tuesday's matchup, but Kansas City has a middling lineup that presents some additional risk. They should be in the mix as a full or mini-stack, but a minimum, rostering Maikel Garcia ($4,600) is a good way to get exposure to the team. He leads off against lefties and has a .384 wOBA against southpaws for the season.

The Astros' offense is very watered down right now due to injury, but there is some value to using the middle portion of their lineup Tuesday night in the hitter-friendly environment of Sacramento. Isaac Paredes ($3,700) is my favorite option of the group, having consistently slotted third in the lineup since returning from the injured list.

Value Bats

Seattle isn't typically a park or rotation that we target for offense, but there are pitchers to exploit on both sides of the matchup Tuesday. Bryce Miller has given up at least one home run in 10 consecutive starts, and multiple long balls in three of his last six. Blaine Crim ($3,100) is serving as the Rockies' primary cleanup hitter and checks in at a very reasonable price.

Ha-Seong Kim ($3,600) has had an injury-riddled season, but he's putting together a strong run with Atlanta, having averaged 10.8 DK points across his last 10 games. Brad Lord has had moments of effectiveness, but he's not a matchup to avoid.

Stacks to Consider

Seattle Mariners vs. Colorado Rockies (McCade Brown): Randy Arozarena ($4,900), Cal Raleigh ($6,400), Julio Rodriguez ($4,300)

Even away from Coors Field, recommending a stack against Brown feels like a layup. He has a -2.2 K-BB% and has allowed at least three earned runs in all but one of his five big-league starts – none of which have gone more than 4.1 innings. The Rockies' bullpen is equally subpar, making this a pretty easy matchup to target for a Mariners' lineup that will be highly motivated as they try to wrap up the AL West.

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets (David Peterson): Seiya Suzuki ($4,400), Ian Happ ($4,000), Carson Kelly ($3,900)

Peterson went from being one of the best fantasy values of the season to unstartable in the final month of the season. He has allowed 21 earned runs across his last 17.1 innings (four starts) and has a 1.96 WHIP across his last five outings. Any lineup is viable against him, and his recent struggles may go relatively unnoticed because of how well he pitched for the majority of the campaign.
