Wednesday's MLB slate features all 30 teams and begins at 1:05 PM ET. Whether they're underpriced relative to their contributions or have a matchup too good to pass up regardless of cost, the players below are all in line to provide strong value at their respective positions...
PITCHER
Jon Gray, COL vs. CIN ($7,600): Gray was fantastic in his return from a foot injury Friday, posing a 10:1 K:BB ratio while holding a dangerous Arizona lineup to two runs over six innings at Chase Field. Backing that effort up shouldn't be difficult against a Reds offense that has allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing pitchers. Some owners will be scared off by this game being played at Coors Field, but Gray has been comfortable pitching at home. He posted a 1.69 ERA in his only Coors Field start of this campaign after finishing last season with a 4.30 home ERA and 4.91 road mark.
Ariel Miranda, SEA vs. KC ($5,900): Miranda makes up for a lack of strikeouts (18.3 percent strikeout rate) by drawing plenty of soft contact and working deep into games. The southpaw has pitched into the seventh inning in five of his past six starts while holding four of those opponents to two or fewer runs. Surpassing his modest $5,900 price shouldn't be difficult against a Royals team that has the sixth-lowest OBP against left-handed starters (.306) and scores the sixth-fewest runs per game overall (4.13).
CATCHER
Buster Posey, SF at DET ($4,000): Posey has been one of the league's best performers against left-handed pitching this season, posting a .455 wOBA in 88 plate appearances. Detroit's Daniel Norris has allowed a .347 wOBA to right-handed hitters to go along with a 5.00 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, suggesting he doesn't have the skills to slow down the decorated catcher. Posey's likely to lead his position in scoring even though seven other options are at least as expensive.
FIRST BASE
Miguel Cabrera, DET vs. SF ($4,000): Don't let Cabrera's early exit from Tuesday'scontest due to hip soreness keep you from using him in this favorable matchup, as manager Brad Ausmus has already said he expects the veteran slugger to be in the lineup Wednesday. Cabrera's .380 wOBA against southpaws puts him in strong position to find success against Ty Blach, who has been susceptible to big games from opponents of late and is allowing a .357 wOBA to hitters from the right side. Three of Blach's past five outings have resulted in at least five earned runs against, and he has allowed a total of 23 runs in 27.2 innings over that span.
SECOND BASE
Ian Happ, CHC vs. TB ($3,900): Rays lefty Blake Snell has seen his record drop to 0-5 while ballooning his ERA to 5.36 with 16 earned runs allowed in 15.2 innings over his past three starts. The switch-hitting Happ is likely to contribute to Snell's recent struggles given the rookie second baseman's .375 wOBA from the right side. Happ's four extra-base hits in the past three games suggest he won't be available for $3,900 much longer, so grab him before that price skyrockets.
THIRD BASE
Joey Gallo, TEX vs. BOS ($3,800): Gallo carries the highest upside among sub-$4,000 third base options given his tremendous home run power. That upside is further amplified by a home matchup with righty Doug Fister. Gallo has launched 17 of his 21 homers against righties while Fister owns a 4.91 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 11 innings this season after allowing a HR/9 over 1.20 in each of his previous two campaigns.
SHORTSTOP
Carlos Correa, HOU at ATL ($5,200): Correa's worth his lofty $5,200 price in this road date with lefty Jaime Garcia. The 2012 first overall pick has posted a .410 wOBA against southpaws, and Garcia's middling 4.35 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and .321 wOBA allowed to righties shouldn't deter owners. SunTrust Park's 1.03 park factor is also .23 higher than Correa's home venue Minute Maid Park, further raising his stock here.
OUTFIELD
J.D. Martinez, DET vs. SF ($4,200): Martinez has been otherworldly against lefties, with a .707 wOBA and .533/.611/1.200 line in 36 plate appearances. Blach's aforementioned recent struggles and the outfielder's success in this split make Martinez a can't-miss play even at $4,200.
George Springer, HOU at ATL ($4,900): Springer is another expensive Astro whose dominance against lefties more than makes up for an elevated price. The powerful leadoff man has racked up a .453 wOBA in that split, thanks in large part to eight homers in 89 plate appearances. Garcia's 1.16 HR/9 this season following a 1.36 mark in 2016 suggests both Correa and Springer have a decent chance of taking him deep.
Eddie Rosario, MIN vs. LAA ($3,900): The left-handed hitting Rosario owns a .353 wOBA against righties, and that number jumps to .423 at home. Target Field's third-ranked 1.21 park factor has played in Rosario's favor all season, and that should once again be the case here against righty Parker Bridwell. Bridwell has allowed a massive .412 wOBA to his first 54 hitters faced from the left side this season.
