2025 Fantasy Outlook
Jax broke out as a lockdown reliever in 2024, posting career-best marks across multiple categories including a 2.03 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 95 strikeouts, 10 saves and 24 holds. The 29-year-old significantly improved his strikeout rate (34.4 percent) by nearly 10 percentage points - his sweeper and changeup headlining his five-pitch aresenal with 45 percent or better whiff rates. Jax's 37.8 percent overall whiff rate was a 98th percentile metric. The Twins recently indicated they're open to the possibility of moving Jax to the starting rotation. The right-hander came up through the minors as a starter and made 14 starts for the Twins in 2021, posting a 6.10 ERA. Given his past starting experience, Jax would seem more equipped for a shift to the rotation than most relievers. The question is whether the uptick in stuff since his move to relief would translate back to a starting role. Read Past Outlooks

Not sharp in regular season debut
Jax allowed a run on a home run and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning Thursday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Jax wasn't sharp in his first outing of the season as he was pulled after 21 pitches. Jax will reprise his late inning setup role again this season and should see some save chances when Jhoan Duran is used earlier in the game or unavailable.

2021
Jax led Twins relievers with 71 appearances and 23 holds last season as the team's primary setup man. The 29-year-old racked up 10 losses to lead all relievers, but his ratios and underlying metrics were solid. Jax's 3.3 barrel percentage allowed was in the 97th percentile, while his hard-hit percentage, average exit velocity and 56.8 percent ground ball rate were all well above-average. His 2.86 xERA was a full point better than his 3.86 ERA, which shows there's room for improvement in that category. Expect Jax to rack up 20-plus holds and a handful of ancillary saves again in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Comfortable in relief role
According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Jax indicated he's glad to continue serving as a reliever after considering a return to the starting rotation.
ANALYSIS
Twins GM Jeremy Zoll said in early January that Jax would be remaining in the bullpen after the coaching staff indicated early in the offseason that a role change was being considered, and it appears the right-hander agrees with the decision to stick in relief. Jax was tantalized by the higher earning potential for starting pitchers but admitted he's likely better suited to work as a high-leverage reliever. The 30-year-old had a 2.03 ERA and 95:15 K:BB with 10 saves and 24 holds over 72 appearances last season.
