CPBL Preview: Brothers at Guardians

CPBL Preview: Brothers at Guardians

This article is part of our Dream11 Fantasy CPBL series.

Chinatrust Brothers (4-5) at Fubon Guardians (3-6)

Projected Starters

LHP Jose De Paula (0-2, 4.15 ERA) vs RHP Yu Ting-Wei (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Game Preview

The Brothers have had the best pitching in the league so far this season, allowing just 3.6 runs per game, though that's yet to translate to a winning record despite the fact that they've scored 4.8 runs per contest. They'll be looking to complete the sweep after winning 11-0 on Friday and 6-5 on Saturday in the first two games of the series. They'll send 32-year-old Dominican lefty Jose De Paula to the mound, a pitcher with one MLB appearance to his name for the Yankees back in 2015. He joined the Brothers this offseason after spending the last two seasons in Mexico. He's been the losing pitcher in both of his first two starts in Taiwan, allowing six runs in 13 innings, though his 14 strikeouts and three walks are both quite respectable. The Guardians turn to Ting-Wei Yu for his first outing of the year as they attempt to break their three-game losing streak. The 22-year-old recorded a 4.47 ERA (nearly half a run better than the league average of 4.94) in seven starts and five relief appearances as a rookie last season, though his 17.4 percent strikeout rate was below league average.

Top Picks

Wang Wei-Chen, Brothers: Wang is the most expensive infielder on the slate, but it's hard to argue he isn't worth the price. He's been on a tear to start the season, hitting .421 with three steals through nine games, and should have plenty of opportunities to score as the Brothers' leadoff man.

Chiang Kun-Yu, Brothers: The 20-year-old spent all but three games in the minors prior to this season, but he's made an impact early in this campaign, hitting .370 with two homers and two steals. He's made for a strong one-two punch at the top of the Brothers' lineup.

Chiang Chih-Hsien, Guardians: It would ordinarily be unwise to recommend a left-handed hitter with a lefty pitcher on the mound for the opposition, but that doesn't appear to apply to Chiang. He posted stronger numbers against lefties than against righties in each of his first five seasons in the CPBL.

Chang Chih-Hao, Brothers: Chang's slow start to the season (hitting just .241 with one extra-base hit) makes him a cheap fantasy option. The veteran outfielder has a long track record, however, slugging over .500 in five straight seasons, and his presence near the top of the Brothers' lineup makes him a good budget play.
