The Monkeys and Guardians meet for the fifth time this year, with the Guardians still searching for their first win in the season series. They'll need to get their bats going after managing just two hits in a 3-0 loss in the first game of the series. The Monkeys will trot out their second straight American lefty as they hope to remain in the win column. 29-year-old Ryan Carpenter spent parts of the last two seasons with MLB's Detroit Tigers but had very little success, struggling to an 8.57 ERA in 63 innings. He's fared far better in his first two starts in Taiwan, striking out 11 and walking just one while allowing five runs in 12.2 innings. The Guardians will turn to 22-year-old lefty Chen Shih-Peng as they look to climb out of the basement. In his first full season at the CPBL level in 2019, he recorded a strong 3.48 ERA. He's followed it up with a solid 3.97 mark through his first two starts in 2020, though his 8:5 K:BB isn't particularly inspiring.

Ryan Carpenter, Monkeys: While both pitchers have gotten off to solid starts this season, it's tough to pick a pitcher facing the potent Monkeys lineup, which has scored a league-leading 8.2 runs per game (compared to 5.3 runs per game for the Guardians). With both options costing the same, stick with the guy facing the worse offense.
Lin Hung-Yu, Monkeys: Lin costs one credit less than his catching counterpart, Dai Pei-Feng, but he would be the catcher to pick even if he cost considerably more. Lin occupies a key role as the cleanup hitter in the Monkeys' excellent lineup and has had a long track record of success, slugging .536 over his 11-year CPBL career.
Lee Tsung-Hsien, Guardians: If Lee remains in the leadoff role which he held in Tuesday's contest, he makes for an interesting budget option. He doesn't hit for any power, but he has plenty of speed, stealing 18 bases last season and two so far this year.
Lin Li, Monkeys: It's not often that a 2-for-5 day at the plate will lower your batting average, but that's what happened to Lin on Tuesday, who's hitting an excellent .465 to start the season. He should be right in the middle of the action for the Monkeys again in this contest.
