2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hutchinson was on his way to a secondary breakout in 2024, as he had already piled up 7.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hits in just five games. Disaster struck in Week 6 against Dallas, however, as Hutchinson suffered a catastrophic leg injury that ended his season. All of the reports regarding his recovery have been positive, and he told reporters in late May that he has been fully cleared for the 2025 season. While that suggests health and playing time won't be a concern, it's still likely best to evaluate his potential in the upcoming campaign cautiously. Double-digit sacks and a minimum of 40 tackles is realistic, but a potential Defensive Player of the Year type season may have to wait until 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Raised production in healthy 2025
Hutchinson recorded 54 total tackles (36 solo), including 14.5 sacks, while also adding four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed, one of which was an interception, over 17 games during the regular season.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson was able to take advantage of a healthy 2025 campaign after being limited to just five games in 2024 due to a broken left tibia and fibula. The defensive lineman set new career highs in total tackles, sacks and forced fumbles while playing all 17 regular-season contests for the third time in his four years in Detroit. Additionally, Hutchinson registered at least 1.0 sacks in each of the team's final four games of the season, securing 6.0 sacks over that stretch, and his 14.5 sacks on the year ranked fourth in the NFL. The 25-year-old already inked a fresh four-year, $180 million contract extension in October, and he'll look to help lead the Lions back to the postseason next year.

Even relative to the expectations of being the No. 2 overall pick, Hutchinson has been plenty productive through his first two seasons. He's combined to produce 21 sacks and 23 tackles for loss in 34 games. While his surface stats were nearly identical from 2022 to 2023, both his improved playmaking and peripheral stats make clear that we should expect more from Hutchinson. Most notably, he doubled his quarterback hits (15 to 33), increased his tackles for loss from nine to 14 and also forced three fumbles from his rookie to sophomore campaigns. His ability to get to the quarterback is particularly positive and illustrates his ability to produce at the levels of elite pass rushers around the league, as only T.J. Watt (36) and Nick Bosa (35) logged more quarterback hits than Hutchinson (33). The final piece to the puzzle is the rest of the defensive line supporting him, as Alim McNeil and new addition DJ Reader will occupy offensive lineman and keep double teams away from Hutchinson. Year three has all the makings of a breakout.

Brooks' top candidate for CPOY
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com lists Hutchinson as his top choice to win the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson was on pace for a record-breaking campaign in 2024 before suffering a catastrophic leg injury in Week 6 against the Cowboys. He progressed enough in his rehab to be available for the Lions' regular-season opener, and he has played a key role in Detroit's pass rush with 7.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles through 10 games. Given his ability to return to a high level of play following a serious injury, Brooks believes that Hutchinson is the frontrunner to win the CPOY award for the 2025 season.
