2025 Fantasy Outlook
Zappe saw action in one game as a reserve option for Cleveland in 2024, a Week 18 loss to the Ravens in which he completed 16 of 31 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and two INTs. A 2022 fourth-round pick who briefly flashed with the Patriots, Zappe is back with Cleveland in 2025, again as a practice squad member to start the season. Read Past Outlooks
Could be added to roster
The Browns could promote Zappe to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland released its updated unofficial depth chart for Week 6 on Tuesday, with Dillon Gabriel as the starting quarterback and Shedeur Sanders being listed as the backup after the Browns shipped Joe Flacco to the Bengals on Tuesday. However, Sanders may not necessarily serve as the No. 2 quarterback come Sunday. Instead, the Browns may view Zappe -- who has made nine career NFL starts -- as being more game-ready than the rookie Sanders, who could remain inactive on game days as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback.

Zappe returns to the Patriots for his third season, but this year he’s likely third quarterback on the roster. The Patriots signed Jacoby Brissett and drafted Drake Maye third overall, relegating Zappe to fighting for scraps with sixth-round rookie Joe Milton. Zappe began last year on the practice squad only to end up starting six games. If that happens again, things will have really gone off the rails in New England. Among 35 QBs with at least 200 attempts, Zappe ranked 30th in on-target percentage (68.4) and 33rd in completion percentage (59.9), with six TD passes and nine interceptions. It’s possible he goes to practice squad again or is traded if the team choose Milton to be the emergency QB.

ANALYSIS
Zappe last saw regular-season action in Week 18 of last season for Cleveland, completing 16 of 31 passes for 170 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions while adding two rushes for two yards against the Ravens. The veteran signal-caller is essentially competing with rookie fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders for the primary backup role behind Dillon Gabriel, and head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday he'll "let the week play out" before making a decision.
