Intriguing late-round pick
RBKansas City Chiefs
April 26, 2025
The Chiefs selected Smith in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 228th overall.
ANALYSIS
Smith is an intriguing prospect. He had considerable pedigree as a four-star wide receiver and was a special-teams standout with Miami before transferring to SMU for his final collegiate season. He converted to running back with the Mustangs and totaled 1,659 yards from scrimmage with 14 touchdowns. It's difficult to get too excited about the potential for a seventh-round selection to immediately contribute, but Smith will be on a historically strong offense with a relatively open backfield.

Stock rising after position switch
RBFree Agent
February 1, 2025
Smith's final season at SMU, when he switched from wide receiver to running back, could help his draft stock rise ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com believes.
ANALYSIS
Smith logged 69 catches for 770 yards and four touchdowns as a wide receiver for three years at the University of Miami. Not only did Smith transfer to SMU for the 2024 campaign, he also opted to convert to a running back. That position change turned out to be the right one, with Smith logging 235 carries for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 39 catches for 327 yards and four scores. Smith should draw interest from teams looking for a versatile running back late in the draft, similar to when the Giants took Tyrone Tracy in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
