2023 Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Stick signed a modest one-year, $1.8 million deal this offseason presumably to back up Justin Herbert after spending his first couple of campaigns as the team's third-string option. As a result, the 2019 fifth-round pick has played just two regular-season snaps thus far in his NFL career, but he does have some notable positive traits, including a level of mobility that make him a dual-threat signal-caller. Now that Chase Daniel is no longer on the roster, expect Stick and 2023 rookie Max Duggan to compete for the top backup spot behind the Chargers' Pro Bowler. Read Past Outlooks

Staying put with Bolts
The Chargers re-signed Stick on Monday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Stick, a 2019 fifth-round selection by the Chargers, is now slated to remain with the team for at least one more year following Monday's signing. The 27-year-old has operated as a backup quarterback behind Justin Herbert across the last three seasons, and he's in line to do so again in 2023. Chase Daniel, Los Angeles' other reserve signal caller, has yet to renew his expired contract.

Mike Gesicki stayed in Saturday's game after other key Dolphins were removed and admitted afterward that he's having a tough time adjusting to new coach Mike McDaniel's offense.

Not only will the ascending Justin Herbert benefit from having his key weapons on offense back in 2022, the Chargers’ offseason focus on fortifying the team’s defense puts a postseason bid well within reach.

With Justin Herbert under center and a defensive savant as head coach, the Chargers will look to move up the pecking order in an AFC dominated by the division rival Chiefs the past few seasons.

Since being drafted in the fifth-round in 2019 by the Chargers, Stick has played just two snaps during his brief NFL career. With Justin Herbert emerging as one of the league's best quarterbacks and the team signing 12-year veteran Chase Daniel prior to the 2021 NFL season to be his backup, Stick is currently the third option under center for Los Angeles.
