Jalen Tolbert

Jalen Tolbert

25-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Dallas Cowboys
2024 Fantasy Outlook
As a rookie in 2022, Tolbert was a hot name in the preseason. He followed that up by catching two passes for 12 yards all season. Last year, Tolbert saw his role increase. The receiver frequently played between 23 and 30 snaps. Tolbert was also targeted between three and five times in seven games. Despite seeing opportunity, he ended the season with 268 yards. With Michael Gallup no longer with the team, Tolbert could become an every-down player. It’s reasonable to predict a third-year breakout for the receiver. Read Past Outlooks

Should have larger role in 2024
WRDallas Cowboys
May 3, 2024
Tolbert is in line for a larger role this season after working as the Cowboys' No. 4 WR in 2023, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports
ANALYSIS
After playing just 89 snaps on offense as a rookie, the 2022 third-round pick got a lot more playing time (477 snaps) in his second season, essentially splitting the No. 3 receiver role with Michael Gallup for much of the year. Gallup is now in Las Vegas and hasn't been replaced by a similar veteran or early draft pick, leaving Tolbert as the likely third WR behind entrenched starters CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. While the role won't necessarily entail a large quantity of targets, Tolbert at least would be positioned for a degree of fantasy value if Lamb were to miss any time with an injury.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
A 2022 third-round pick out of South Alabama, Tolbert was viewed as a raw prospect whose skills needed to catch up to his athleticism. That didn't happen in his rookie season, as, despite the early season absence of Michael Gallup, Tolbert didn't play in the first two games and fell out of the wideout rotation for good after Week 12. Gallup will be further removed from his knee injury this year, and the Cowboys traded for Brandin Cooks in the offseason, so there's no clear path to a regular role for Tolbert in 2023 even if he does take a step forward in his development.
A 2022 third-round pick out of South Alabama, Tolbert's small-school background may have caused him to slip a bit in a WR-heavy draft class, but he offers the skills and athleticism to make an impact in the NFL. The 23-year-old has the route-running skills to play inside or outside, and while his polish and focus could stand to improve, his huge numbers as a senior in college highlight his potential. With Michael Gallup (ACL) and James Washington (foot) likely to miss the beginning of the season, Tolbert could see significant snaps right out of the gate for the Cowboys.

Looking to prove self in 2024
WRDallas Cowboys
May 25, 2024
Tolbert said Saturday that he is ready to follow in the footsteps of wideouts CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks to do "what I can to create value on this team," Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After the Cowboys released Michael Gallup in March, Tolbert moved into the WR3 spot on the depth chart behind Lamb and Cooks and ahead of KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Brooks. Tolbert saw more looks in the passing game in 2023, registering 22 catches on 36 targets for 268 yards and two touchdowns while playing 454 snaps on offense across 17 regular-season games. He's received plenty of praise from his coaches and teammates this offseason, with Cooks noting that Tolbert is going to "crush" whatever expectations are put in front of him.
