Luther Burden

21-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Bears now have six playmakers that were top-50 draft picks, adding TE Colston Loveland at No. 10 overall and Burden at No. 39 to round out an offense that also includes WR DJ Moore, WR Rome Odunze, TE Cole Kmet and RB D'Andre Swift. Burden's first challenge will be to earn the No. 3 WR job this summer, likely competing against free-agent signing Olamide Zaccheaus. Burden is one of the younger players from his draft class, turning 22 in December, and had a prolific career at Missouri with 2,263 receiving yards, 234 rushing yards and 25 total TDs over three seasons. He was far more productive in 2023 than in 2024, but his draft stock rebounded some after a 4.41 40 at the combine, where he checked in at 6-foot, 206. Burden's dense frame and strong work after the catch have evoked comparisons to his new teammate, Moore, who signed a four-year extension last summer. Chicago isn't the best landing spot to get big-time volume right away, but it could work out well eventually if new coach Ben Johnson helps Caleb Williams recover from an ugly rookie season. Participating in team drills
WRChicago Bears
July 29, 2025
Burden (hamstring) is taking part in team drills at Tuesday's practice, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Burden missed OTAs, minicamp, and the first four days of training camp due to a hamstring injury sustained during rookie minicamp back in May, but head coach Ben Johnson said the 39th overall pick in the 2025 Draft is ready to be eased into team drills "slowly but surely," per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com. Johnson said the wideout is "a little behind right now," but it at least appears that Burden's health is no longer impeding his development. He still has plenty of time to display his playmaking abilities in training camp and the preseason, and to potentially push Olamide Zaccheaus for the No. 3 receiver role behind DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.

Ramping up in training camp
WRChicago Bears
August 2, 2025
Burden has fully recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained in May and has impressed teammates and coaches during training camp, Courtney Cronin of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Burden got off to a slow start during his first full practice Tuesday, but the rookie second-rounder has ramped up his activity and displayed his blistering speed during the following two days of practice. He's built early chemistry with Caleb Williams, which should help Burden compete with Olamide Zaccheaus and Cole Kmet for targets in the passing game behind top pass catchers DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.
