Staying in Los Angeles
Rivers signed a one-year contract with the Rams on Sunday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rivers opened the 2024 regular season as the Rams' No. 2 running back behind Kyren Williams, but he was eventually bumped down to third string by rookie Blake Corum. Rivers saw plenty of work on special teams for the Rams last season and should reprise that role in 2025. He finished the 2024 campaign with 22 carries for 99 yards and five catches (on six targets) for 34 yards across 17 regular-season games.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Undrafted out of Fresno State in 2023, Rivers has bounced on and off the practice squad with the Rams the last two years as a reliable depth option, albeit one with limited upside. While he can contribute on all three downs, Rivers lacks the size, speed or power to be a lead back in the NFL. Los Angeles recognizes his limits and deploys him effectively, but the team also understood that he might be overmatched as the No. 2 option behind Kyren Williams and added Boston Scott in free agency before using a third-round pick on Blake Corum.

More competition for touches
Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports that Cam Akers practiced fully Thursday, and Akers returning to game action could spell the end of Rivers' opportunities with the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Akers had been sitting out with the team searching for a trade partner, but no trade materialized, so the Rams plan to reintegrate the 2020 second-round pick. Rivers had been elevated from the practice squad for the previous game and used in the early-down role occupied by Akers earlier in the season, but with Akers back, the Rams could cut Rivers out of the game plan entirely and simply choose not to elevate him again.
