Smartt played nearly 300 offensive snaps last year filling in at times for an injured Gerald Everett or Donald Parham, but the 25-year-old was used primarily as a run blocker in two tight-end sets. Smartt pulled in five of six targets for 50 receiving yards while losing a fumble in Sunday's 40-17 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Smartt continued to operate as the Chargers' top tight end sans veteran starter Will Dissly (shoulder). The third-year man fell just eight yards short of the team lead in receiving behind Ladd McConkey (5-58-1). Smartt did cough up the first fumble of his career in the lopsided loss, putting a damper on an otherwise fine fantasy showing. With Dissly expected to miss multiple weeks, Smartt could be a bargain at the tight end position in Week 16.

An undrafted free agent last season, Smartt wound up recording 74 offensive snaps across seven contests mainly chipping in as an extra blocker in multiple tight-end personnel. The 6-foot-4 target is undersized (226 pounds) for a tight end and could be on the chopping block for one of the team's final roster spots.
