2025 Fantasy Outlook
It's unfortunate that Spears has been dealt poor injury luck in his football career to this point, because when healthy he might be one of the NFL's most elusive runners. Knee injuries were a major long-term concern, and perhaps the primary reason Spears fell to the third round of the 2023 Draft. He's avoided setbacks with his knee so far, but he suffered two concussions within a span of two months last season, adding another major concern to his medical record. With that said, Spears has been effective through two NFL seasons and was one of the most elusive college RBs in recent memory at Tulane, so he could play a central role in Tennessee's offense even with Tony Pollard remaining the clear starter. The Titans likely intend to run a ground-based offense in Cam Ward's rookie year, if only because they lack developed pass catchers. The Titans have made substantial offensive line investments each of the past two offseasons, and they might soon see a payoff for the efforts. If so, a healthy Spears should provide Tennessee with an explosive threat off the bench, both as a runner and pass catcher. Pollard may have been a bit overworked in 2024, often playing through injuries, and Spears is more than capable of picking up some of that slack. Read Past Outlooks

Ankle
August 9, 2025
Spears (ankle) boarded the Titans' team bus on crutches and in a walking boot after Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay, Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Spears needed a cart to get to the locker room after suffering a right leg injury in the first half of Saturday's preseason opener. After the game, head coach Brian Callahan said Spears likely has an ankle injury but will need further evaluation, per Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com. If Spears has an injury that carries over into the regular season, Julius Chestnut and/or Kalel Mullings could be asked to step into a bigger role. In addition, Tony Pollard would likely need to shoulder a bigger-than-planned workload -- there had been some talk during the offseason and preseason that the pair could work in a more even split compared to last year.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Spears' rookie season might not have drawn headlines but was a clear success overall. He was as good of a runner as expected (453 yards and two touchdowns on 100 carries) and finished third on the team in both catches (52) and targets (70). The 2023 third-round pick was phenomenal at Tulane, where he ran for 1,581 yards and 19 touchdowns on just 229 carries (6.9 YPC) his senior season, hinting at reason to expect more than 450 yards on his next 100 carries in the NFL. Spears already showed the ability to shine through when the Titans offense struggled in 2023, so he won't necessarily be ruined if the new-look offense built around QB Will Levis and head coach Brian Callahan doesn't pan out. Tony Pollard is the bigger limiting factor for Spears' fantasy projection, with Tennessee adding the former Dallas running back on a three-year, $21.75 million deal. It's not clear how the Titans intend to split the workload between their two talented backs, but it's probably fair to say neither is built to last as a true workhorse. Both are comfortable catching passes and explosive running in space, but they're also thin by RB standards, with Pollard listed at 6-0, 209, and Spears at 5-10, 200. The split could be something close to 50-50, with Spears perhaps trading some of last year's targets for carries now that he's sharing a backfield with Pollard instead of Derrick Henry.
No one questions the running skill of Spears, who routinely made defenders look foolish as he raced to 2,910 yards and 31 touchdowns (6.8 YPC) in his 33-game career at Tulane. The question is whether Spears has the athletic tools necessary for his skill to manifest at the pro level. A 2023 third-round pick, Spears is not fast (4.54 pro day 40) despite a light frame (5-11, 201), so he might find in the NFL that his methods don't work as well as they did at the collegiate level. Not just that, but Spears is reportedly missing the ACL and cartilage entirely in one of his knees. At his size, Spears' body might hold him back. If he survives, though, he should win the backup role behind Derrick Henry, competing mostly with 2022 fourth-round pick Hassan Haskins.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could reach 100 carries
RBTennessee Titans
August 5, 2025
The Titans intend to increase Spears' carry total in 2025, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fowler projected that Spears could reach 100 carries, though that wouldn't actually represent a major increase in the running back's workload. Spears had exactly 100 carries in his rookie season in 2023 while recording 84 across just 12 games last year. Nevertheless, there has been consistent reporting that the team intends to distribute carries between Spears and Tony Pollard more evenly in 2025. Spears took a step back in his second season, likely due to a combination of hamstring and head injuries, so it will also be imperative that he remains healthy if he wants to handle a bigger role.
